My Favorite Time of Day

I'm definitely a night owl. I can stay up to 3:00 am without even batting an eye (pun intended). But lately I've been trying to alter my schedule. For the past few weeks I try to unplug myself about an hour before I intend on actually turning my lights off.

First I catch up on current events. I subscribe to the New York Times email alerts with the days headlines. I do my best to read a few articles (even though sometimes they're on subject matters I'm less than versed on). I figure I'm getting something out of it and it helps me decompress.

After I caught up I read my book until I start to feel tired. I absolutely love to read! I particularly love to read during the summer because of all the time I have available to dedicate to my reading material. During the year I spend my spare time catching up on episodes of my shows, since my schedule is so strange I tend to miss them when they originally air. But since there are no new episodes over the summer I'm able to really delve into my novels. Nothing better than reading a good book by the pool or on the beach. I'm counting down the days until my favorite author Emily Giffin releases her newest book (I believe it's due out in August). I love her storylines and characters, I've read several of her novels two or three times. Jodi Picoult is another author that never disappoints me. I haven't read her two latests (their plots didn't strike me) but she wrote my absolute favorite book The Pact. I recently finished The Hunger Games trilogy and was surprised how much I loved them (since I'm not usually a fan of fantasy or futuristic writing). But, the plot was so interesting, and of course I was caught up in the love triangle. A also adore the classics, The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite books. Right now, I'm reading Sisterhood Everlasting. For those who read the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants this is a continuation of their story but now they're about to turn 30 and it's about how their lives have changed since they were teenagers. I'm enjoying it so far. I was so into those books when I was in high school so I want to know how it all ties up in the end. What are you currently reading? I'm always looking for good suggestions!

Time to go unwind!

A Long, Leisurely, Weekend

I hope everyone has enjoyed the fabulous, long weekend. I am, unfortuantely, gearing up for the week ahead and thought I would share some pictures of my adventures over the weekend

This was all I needed to make me happy today! Got to lay out and catch some sun.

Had to be a little patriotic on Memorial Day. Got this suit at Target, of all places, last summer.

Enjoyed a nice glass (or glasses) of Skinny Girl Pina Colada. So refreshing in this heat!

Yesterday we hosted a party for my Gandmother's 92 birthday. These gorgeous tulips were the centerpiece. They were so beautiful I moved them out on the patio this morning when we had brunch. They were too pretty not to enjoy.

But the piece de resistance were these amazing cupcakes my Momma ordered with Grandmom's face on them. How amazing are these? They were such a hit!

Hope else had a wonderful weekend, as well!

In Another Life

I usually only put things on my wishlist that I could actually envision myself buying because, well, otherwise it's just torture but I have fallen in love with some rather high priced merchandise. I would totally add these to my closet if I...won the lottery (because that's pretty much the only situation in which I could justify buying them). If I had someone else's life (and bank account) these would be my first purchases

This Milly Dress is absolutely perfection

This color block dress is by DVF.

This neon green lace shift is also by DVF.

These Jimmy Choo's are Kate Middleton's formal shoe of choice and they are divine! I am in love with them!

And meet the newest addition to my closet which I am obsessed with:
These are by Michael Kors- think I'm going to be wearing these out on the town tonight (they're super comfortable!)

Currently Coveting: Monograms

It should come as no surprise that I adore everything with a monogram on it. So of course I have a few things with this detail on my with list.

Ever since I saw this picture on pinterest I knew I needed to have this bathing suit. After extensive research I finally figured out where to buy one. Marley Lilly has the cutest monogrammed merchandise! This bandeau comes in pink, navy and black. I think I'm going to go for the black since that will be the easiest to find a matching bottom (they only sell the top).

I have also been interested in a brown monogrammed clutch (for all of my navy outfits that my black Tory clutch won't go with). But why stop at just brown, look at the array of colors these clutches come in. They have many more styles as well

I gave this as a gift to my mom for valentines day and she loved it! I know we aren't exactly in scarf season right now (thank god!) but I definitely wouldn't mind getting one for the fall.

In other news, have you seen the new trailer for The Great Gatsby? I honestly cannot wait! It is one of my favorite books and I'm so excited to see how they remade the movie. (Plus, Leo's in it- how can you go wrong?) Check it out here

My Name is Tory, and I have a Shopping Addiction

Yesterday my mom and I were running a few errands and had to make a quick trip to the mall (I needed a new charger for my laptop). She wanted to check something out in another store so she say to me "just go in J.Crew, I'll meet you there". For those of you who know me or have been reading my blog you know how this is going to end (badly for my bank account, well for my closet). So I wonder in and am in the dressing room trying on 8 items within 10 minutes. I'll just cut to the chase and say I found a few things. Thought I would share them with you (because some of them were really good deals)

This tank was on sale in stores (not sure why it isn't on sale online yet, but assume it will happen in the near future). It was only $25. Couldn't pass it up

I am in constant search for cute denim shorts. It's funny a few years ago they were the bane of my existence, I thought they were so ugly, but love them now. Let's just say, I change my opinions a lot, about a multitude of things. Anywho, these shorts are amazing. They're much shorter in person (and I'm not a tall girl). They're also a really nice weight so I definitely recommend these.

This is my favorite purchase. I think this top is SO cute! The best part is it's only $32.50! I'm already visualizing it with my following purchase...

I have been in desperate need of another pair of white jeans. I, for one, swear by J.Crew denim. Almost all of my jeans are from them. I have a pair of their bootcut white jeans but I had a little too much fun in Jamaica last year on spring break and they have been stained ever since (guess that's the problem with white). And this year I wanted a pair of straight legs. Alas I found them! I prefer the toothpick cut to the matchstick (toothpick are tighter to the leg, matchstick are slightly wider). But it's all about personal preference.

And finally, these ankle toothpick jeans in sea blue. I really love the wash, I have a lot of darker denim and was definitely in the mood for a mix up and these do just the trick. I really only like jeans to hit me at my ankle bone (unless they're bootcut), don't know why just like the look the best.

Come on, if I can do this much damage on a day I wasn't even planning on shopping...I consider this a serious shopping addiction.

Beach Bum

With Memorial Day fast approaching (seriously cannot believe the summer is almost starting) I thought I would put together a list of a few necessities you will need in your beach bag.

Beach Bum

1. First you will need a great tote that will hold all your gear. I generally use my Tory Burch or Vineyard Vines tote bags because they have so much room.

2. Second, a great pair of sunglasses. I adore this pair of Kate Spade "Rory" sunglasses

3. A great nail color is key, this one is "Forget me Not" by Essie

4. I swear by Rosebud Lip Salve for those sunburnt lips

5. A cute straw hat is a must for the summer. I like to try and soak up every ounce of sun I can but after being out there for an extended period of time, sometimes my face needs a little break.

6. Sun protection- I don't always practice what I preach about this, but it really is important

7. Cute, colorful studs to brighten up the suit. These are by Kate Spade

8. Your phone/ipod for some beachy tunes

9. I SWEAR by these Tory Burch flip flops, they are perfect for the beach and pool since they are rubber. I usually go for the ones with the patterned bottoms since they are so fun

Work It Out

This summer I am going to be nannying, which means that I am going to be spending lots of time at the pool (hopefully getting a great tan). So I have been scouting out some bathing suits that I wouldn't mind adding to the wardrobe, considering that fact that it is pretty much going to be my uniform. (I'm justifying buying them this way).

I really love the style of this top from J. Crew

I kind of really want a one piece for this summer. This one is from J. Crew

I have a Lilly Bandeau bathing suit and it's my absolute favorite so I think I need to buy at least one more.

I just need this bathing suit, plain and simple.

Along with bathing suit shopping, I have been attempting to whip my body into bikini shape, as well. Here are a few tips I learned from

Add Black Beans to Your Diet
I love black beans so this trick won't be difficult for me at all. One cup has as many as 15 grams of protein!

Have Oats for Breakfast
They're rich in Fiber

Eat Brown Rice
We all know that white rice isn't the best for us, so substitute it with brown rice

Drink Some Wine
Drinking a glass of wine can boost your calorie burn for up to 90 minutes (this one's an easy one). Substitute wine for hard alcohol

#1 Tip- Eat Half a Grapefruit before Every Meal
The tangy taste can lower insulin and is also a good source of protein. It's also 90% water so it can fill you up

I've also been doing these simple exercises before bed and can DEFINITELY feel a difference in my thighs. Here are two of my favorites:

I don't pretend to be an expert on any of this, but I figured a little something was better than doing nothing! Remember to consult your physician before any major fitness changes

Momma's Day

Every year I am at a loss of what to buy my beautiful Momma for Mother's Day. I consider myself to be notoriously bad at buying gifts for people. For some reason I just cannot anticipate what the recipient would enjoy. I'll spend hours in a store trying to pick out something. (It also doesn't help that my selfless mother repeatedly tells me that she doesn't need anything.) But this year I am determined to give my mom the Mother's Day she deserves.

I know a lot of girls say their mothers are their best friend, but I can say that, in my case, it's absolutely true. I genuinely wish I could put into words just how much my, incredibly kind, mother means to me but I fear that even the strongest sentiment wouldn't do it justice. I am an only child which means that I am blessed to have a very uniquely close relationship with both of my parents ("we're the three best friends that anyone could have"). And regardless of how many times I have complained about not having siblings (and believe me, it was quite frequently when I was younger), I wouldn't trade how close I am with my parents for a hundred brothers and sisters. My mother is the woman I strive to be every day. She has the kindest heart and most gentle spirit of anyone I have ever met. It truly is not an exaggeration to say that everyone who meets her adores her as much as I do. So my dear Momma, thank you for being my best friend!

So if you feel as strongly about your mother as I do about mine, what do you say we give them a day that shows just how grateful we are to have them in our lives?

Here are a few gift ideas to make your mom's day truly special:

Who wouldn't love a pair of cozy, seersucker, pajamas with their monogram?

Every lady deserves some luxury in her life and these Diptyque candles are the perfect way to do it.

How about a pair of monogrammed Jack Rogers? Perfect for summer!

Are you sensing a trend? Since I inherited my love of monograms from my mother (and grandmother!) I think they are the perfect, personal, touch to any Mother's day gift. This sun hat would be fantastic for mom for days on the beach, or by the pool.

As my girl Jennifer Aniston says in The Break-Up "Every girl likes flowers". So remember you can never go wrong with a bouquet of mom's favorite blooms

From a TV lover, a box set of mom's favorite show on DVD is a fantastic gift (and one I wouldn't mind receiving)

Treat mom to a little pampering and get her a mani or pedi gift certificate.

These monogrammed Tervis Tumblers are an adorable gift idea. Perfect for summer cocktails!

I can't spill the beans on what I'm purchasing for my mom but I'll be sure to let you know once I've given it to her!

Make sure you do all you can so that your momma feels like Queen for a Day!

Monday Morning, Rain is Falling

I apologize for being remiss in maintain my blog, I feel as though I have been working nonstop. But I finally have a moment to catch my breath. If you're like me Mondays are far from your favorite day of the week. So I thought I would fill you in on a few luxuries that I have been currently enjoying to brighten up  my day.

A nice warm skinny vanilla latte can definitely cheer me up

It's a little cold and dreary here today so these items will pretty much be my uniform. Where would I be without them?

Catching up on last nights episode of GCB. So sad the season's over. For those of you who have yet to see it, I highly recommend it- it's hysterical!

Just wondering around Pinterest and tumblr and found this, it really brightened my day!

Happy Monday!

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

I'm in the midst of yet another personal decision, whether or not to cut my hair for the summer. For most of high school and the beginning of college I kept my hair pretty short (shoulder length usually) but sophomore year in college I grew it out (well it was long for me anyway). I tend to get ADD quite often when it comes to my hair, as soon as I see a celebrity or a friend with a cute, short, hair cut I'm inspired to cut mine as well. I am once again contemplating cutting it short for the summer. I've been wanting a change and think it would be super cute to cut it for the summer (not to mention cooler).
It should come as no surprise that I love everything Tory Burch and I as much as I love her designs, I am equally as intrigued by her personal style. Her hair cut is flawless and this is hairdo I would like for myself. (I am equally in love with Jennifer Aniston's grown out bob but have learned, the hard way, that may hair as too much natural wave to get mine to look like hers) so I have sought out other alternatives.
If I were to play it safe and don't cut off too much it would look similar to this. (I also LOVE her color!)

It would definitely help my hair out since it could use a good trimming but I have some reservations. With the humidity of the Baltimore summers I have learned that my hair often does not do what I would like it to do. So I'm worried I would be able to style it the way I want to. I'm also conflicted about wether or not I want to go through all the trouble of growing it out again when I, inevitably, want to, yet again. When it's long I always want to cut it, and once I cut it I want it longer again- story of my life!

I figured I would include a few photos of me (for those of you who don't know me) to help you help me, make my decision:
This was last weekend so this is how long it is now

Another angle (a few weeks ago)

When it was shorter...

I know it always grows back but I honestly cannot decide what to do!

In other news, I purchased Moroccan Oil last night. My friends who have used it swear by it so I cannot wait to try it. My damaged hair is salivating at the thought of some re-hydration. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes, in the mail now...can't wait for it to arrive. (If you're blonde be sure to order light, I've heard it can stain your hair!)
