Sunday Social Week 5

It's that time of the week again, Sunday Social! It's amazing how every week the questions feel so relevant to what's going on in my life. This weeks questions center around careers. Over the past few months I have really been struggling with the decision of whether or not to follow the path I have been on since high school or to follow my dream. After much soul searching, and many long discussions with my parents, I have decided to deviate from the safe path and take a risk to follow my dream. (Anyone who knows me can understand just how big of a change of plans this is). I've never been someone who enjoys taking risks, I like staying in my comfort zone, but I realize that if I don't do this now, I never will and while this is probably the scariest thing I have ever done, I don't think I've ever been more confident in any decision.

But enough about all of that, on to the questions!

1. What is your dream job? The career path I have decided to pursue is in journalism. Ideally I would love to do something in the fashion industry and to ultimately become an author.

Emily Giffin is my idol!

2. If you had just won the lottery and didn't need to work, what would you do with your time? I would definitely volunteer. I would love to travel to third world countries and try to aid in any way I could there (my cousin just went to Africa and said it was a life changing experience, and my grandfather was an ambassador to UNICEF, so I would like to follow in their footsteps) . I would also probably keep the job I have now, I'm a preschool teacher and absolutely love my job so I wouldn't mind doing that. I have always dreamt of designing clothes so I might finance my own line. And of course I would definitely put all that money to good use and travel!

3. When you were a child what did you want to be when you grew up? I was very indecisive as a child (imagine that!) so I changed my mind a lot. The main ones I remember were teacher, doctor, and actress. As I got a little older I really wanted to be a designer. But for the most part my opinions changed with every movie I saw.

4. What piece of career advice would you give someone starting out in your field? Considering that I'm just starting out in my field I don't really have too many words of wisdom. But if I were talking to an aspiring teacher (since I do have experience with that) I would definitely tell them to have patience. Some days are definitely better than others so it's important to not give up! Also to enjoy them, preschoolers especially, are so sweet and funny so remember to enjoy your time with them!

5. Biggest pet peeves either in life, the blogging world, or at work? I have a lot of pet peeves but one of my biggest is when people discuss other people I don't know. Nothing worse than the two people you are with carrying on a conversation you have nothing to add to. I just think it's rude and inconsiderate. I hate being interrupted. I don't like being rushed (which can be very necessary though because I am habitually running late). Bad drivers also really get under my skin.

6. Biggest Fears? Failure would probably be the biggest fear I have for my own life. I also worry about anything bad happening to the people I love. I'm also terrified of snakes and spiders.

So there you have it! Sorry they're a day late. Happy Monday!

The Weekender

With the recent trips I've been taking, I have been on the lookout for a good, new overnight bag. I use them so frequently that I tell myself that it's a worth while purchase.

I alternate between a few different ones, but I've had all of them for awhile now so I think it's time to add a new one into the rotation.

I have a large Longchamp which is great because they are deceivingly large. It's also a great pool bag because they're waterproof. But I really like different compartments in my bags, to store things, and since these don't have them everything kind of falls to the bottom.

I have a set of Baggu bags to keep all of my little trinkets safe and organized but it still isn't enough. Plus, I have had this particular bag since freshmen year in college (it was my school bag for awhile) so I'm kind of ready for something new.

I also use my Vineyard Vines tote bag frequently. It has four pockets (three open and one zipper) that I love. The main problem with this bag is that it's smaller than it looks. When I take it to the pool, I usually have to carry my towel. Which is really a problem when I want to spend the night out. I am a terrible packer, I always over pack so this bag really only allows me to pack what I'm going to sleep in and what I'm going to wear the next day and nothing else (I can barely fit shoes in here).

The third bag I alternate between is my Tory Burch tote. It's a nice combo between the two above because it's pretty roomy and also has two pockets in it.

But ideally I would like a duffel bag. I have tons of Vera Bradley ones, but I only ever really use my jumbo one anymore (literally that thing has been with me every where! It's just so roomy). But aside from that one, I'm kind of over them and would like something a little more grown up.

So take a look at what I found!

This bag from J.Crew is only $36! And it looks like it would be the perfect size for a weekend away! I seriously need to purchase this one right now.

I'd love to know, what bags do you use for a night out or a weekend away?

Let's Get Physical

As you know I love to run. In all honesty, it takes some serious motivation to actually get me to go but once I start, and of course when it's over, I'm so happy I went. Being an only child I relish alone time. I like having a few minutes each day to just think things over. So running is just that, a little me time (it's also the best medicine when you're stressed out). But I am far from a workout junkie. My biggest issue is getting into the routine, once I get used to exercising every day, or every other day, I truly do enjoy it. But with my random schedule it's difficult to carve out a certain amount of time each day. But I try my best to fit it in when I can!

I despise treadmills.  I would so much rather run outside. I usually run on a track, mainly because I like to know exactly how far I've run and how far I have left to go. But I recently discovered the Nike Running App and have been running on the street. It is simply amazing! It notifies you of your distance, your speed, and how many calories you burn. It even catalogs all of your runs so you can see your progress (plus it cheers you one which is super cute).

I've become very particular in what I wear, because it's definitely a time you want to be comfortable. I usually wear a racer-back tank and Nike or Under Armour capris (but they need to be tight at the knee). I used to run in norts all the time but I kind of find shorts to be a pain because they're constantly shifting. The last thing you want to be worrying about is how your outfit looks! Last week I bought some running tops are Nordstrom's Anniversary sale (the one pictures above is my fav!).

But, by far, my biggest endorsement is for the Nike Free Run+3 shoes. They are out of this world! They honestly feel like air. If you haven't already, go and try them on and you will see what I mean.

What do you wear to workout?

Watch Out

Lately I have had a thing for watches. Three years ago, for Christmas, I received the tortoiseshell Michael Kors watch. I have worn it everyday since. I absolutely love it, especially because it goes with everything.

But I was flipping through the Nordstrom catalog for their Anniversary sale and found a few others I wouldn't mind adding to my collection.

This was the first one I came across that I feel in love with. Talk about going with everything! How versatile would having both and gold and silver watch be?

I have been obsessed with Kate Spade's watch collection since she released them and want so many of them!
I think this one is my favorite. I saw it on my friend when we were in Atlantic City (shout out to Car!) and have been in love with it since. (I especially love the pink spade!)

I've been in the market for a simple silver watch and this one is fantastic.

And of course I adore her whimsical ones

But my DREAM would be a Michele watch!

The first one, Michele 'Deco Diamond Day', is a bargain for a mere $1,545.00. (Plus you have to buy the band separately)
The second one, Michele 'Deco' Diamond Index, retails for $525.00 (not including band).

But honestly, how beautiful are these? Maybe one day...

So Clutch

Clutches are seriously the best kind of purses. They are compact, cute, but still have enough room to carry all your most vital essentials. While I have banned myself from buying any new purses in the near future, that hasn't stopped me from having seriously obsessions about a few.

So Clutch

I have been lusting after, literally, every clutch in this picture for months. What clutches are you dreaming of?

Also, I've been wondering, do you use your clutches during the day? Or do you save them for the evening? I usually use mine, primarily, at night but am curious what others philosophies are...fill me in!

A Hepburn in a Hilton World

Last night I enjoyed an evening, curled up in bed, watching my favorite movie of all time, Breakfast at Tiffany's. No one can argue that the fashion in the movie is absolutely flawless, transcending time and fads.

For the ultimate guide on how to best exemplify Holly read How to be a Hepburn in a Hilton World

It's one of my favorite books, so many important life lessons, I fully recommend it!

As Holly would say, "How do I look?"

Sunday Social Week 4

It's time for Sunday Social! This weeks questions revolve around handbags (something I've actually been thinking a great deal about lately...take a look)

What's your favorite handbag you've ever owned?
I'd have to say that my Tory Burch clutch is probably my favorite. I never used to be a big bag girl, but have recently gotten pretty into them. This was one I mulled over for quite some time, and was so thrilled to finally have. I think it's the perfect going out clutch and it goes with practically everything. I love it!

Dream handbag you lust after?
For as long as I can remember, the one bag I have been dying for is a Louis Vuitton. I even have a fund currently going so I can finally make that dream a reality (except it's definitely going to take me a little while).

The one I have always wanted was the Speedy 30
but recently I've been debating possibly getting the Neverfull MM tote.

I'm equally obsessed with Goyard bags. If money were no object I would have (a monogrammed) one of these hanging in my closet, as we speak.

I also seriously covet a Balenciaga Motorcycle bag
I saw this little baby at Nordstrom yesterday. I wouldn't mind if this magically appeared in my room, either.

Daily essentials in your purse or work bag
1. I have a little "survival kit" that I simply cannot live without. It has everything in it from deodorant to aspirin to make up. Anything I might need in a pinch is in there.
2. My phone
3. Wallet
4. I have a notebook in my purse to keep to-do lists and blog ideas. I've found I work better when I actually, physically, write things down as opposed to keep them in the "notes" pad on my phone.
5. I usually keep the book I'm reading in there. Since I'm nannying over the summer, I need something to occupy myself when the kids are watching Jake and the Neverland Pirates or coloring.
6. Sunglasses and my actually distance glasses
7. Headphones

What's in your purse (with pictures)

Here's basically everything that can be found in my purse.

This is what can be found in my clutch, my evening out essentials

Life's Little Instructions

Last weekend, while I was staying at my friend's beach house, she had a sign hanging called Life's Little Instructions. I literally fell in love with it and wanted to share it with everyone.

I think it is important to remember the simple pleasures in life. Life is too short not to make you, and the others around you, happy. So read through this and try and incorporate of these lessons into your life. I'm challenging myself to do that and I can anticipate that it's going to make me a happier person.

Thought this would be a great way for everyone to kick start their weekend, so enjoy!

Cosmetic Cases

I have always had a thing for cosmetic cases (even though, oddly enough, I'm not that into makeup). Since I'm kind of clueless when it comes to makeup, I know how to do what I wear and that's about it, I decided to expand my horizons this summer. I recently signed up for birchbox, which is similar to a magazine subscription, in that, you pat $10 a month and they send you a little package with the latest beauty samples. I figured this would be a good way for me to dip my toe in the water, so to speak. My first box should be arriving in the next few days and I'll be sure to fill you in on what goodies I receive.

Since I've also been, pretty much, using the same cosmetics since I started wearing makeup (hey, if it ain't broke) I signed up for a makeup tutorial at, where else, Nordstrom with Bobbi Brown this Saturday in hopes of being turned on to some new finds.

So with all of this new makeup I need a new cosmetic case, right? I feel like I'm constantly on a search for the perfect one. I don't need a super huge one since there isn't too much to put in there but I also want it to have enough room for all my essentials. And, of course, the main stipulation is that it has to be cute. But, like every other aspect of my life, I'm super indecisive about them.

Currently I have a simple navy, quilted Vineyard Vines bag. It's a good size and I loved it when I bought it, but due to the nature of it's purpose, it gets a little dirty and dingy so I think it's time for a new one.

I recently bought this Marc Jacobs cosmetic pouch to house my travel necessities (my lotion, deodorant and perfume). I had originally bought it as a makeup bag but since it doesn't sit up right, I decided against it (I like to be able to see inside).

Here are a few of the makeup bags I've been scouting:

I really like the idea of having a, sort of, matching set so I think this is my favorite. I'm just a little less enthusiastic about the hefty price tag of $88.

I found this Tory one on sale. I think the print is cute

These two are by Kate Spade and are a great size. I had one very similar, from J. Crew a few years ago.

Stella and Dot

I came home from work today to find a package sitting on the kitchen table. I got really excited hoping it was the new iphone covers I ordered, but alas it was addressed to Momma. Last thursday night she went to a Stella and Dot party and ordered a few pieces of jewelry (she was even sweet enough to pick up something special for me!). Well let me just say, this jewelry is the cutest thing I've seen in awhile!

I've never been to one of the parties (I was actually babysitting for the woman hosting it) but now I'm determined to make an appearance at the next one!

First, can I just say I'm obsessed with the chunky, starfish necklace in the photo above. I haven't been able to locate it on the website (especially now that everything appears to be turing over to the fall line) but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I might be able to get my hands on it if I make it to one of the parties.
She picked up this unique bracelet. I love it because it has so many different elements associated with it; there are the brown, wooden beads that make it casual, the rhinestone beads that make it slightly more dressy, and the turquoise bead that I just love. I think it's such a cute stacking piece.
Momma bought these adorable studs for me. How cute are they? I think they will go with absolutely everything. Wearing them as we speak

Last, but certainly not least, this is the final piece my mom bought. I'm completely in love with it.

You can wear it as a two or three strand. It's the best color turquoise too. She is so nice she is going to let me share these new, beautiful pieces of jewelry.

I went on the website and found some other things that were super cute.
This bangle is fabulous. I've seen similar ones, but I'm a sucker for anything navy, as I'm sure you know.

Finally, how amazing is this necklace? I think it would go with so much.

Do you have any Stella and Dot pieces that you love?

Sunday Social Week 3

Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend, I am still in recovery mode from my trip to Atlantic City at the moment but it's time for this weeks Sunday Social so the show must go on!

This weeks questions, appropriately, revolve around travel.

Best trip you've ever been on: This is a difficult one for me since I have been on so many wonderful vacations but I think I would have to say my trip to Vegas last year. Eights of the girls from my pledge class booked a trip to Vegas in January, right before we went back to school. It was, honestly, the most fun four days of my life! I was a little hesitant prior to the trip, I didn't think Vegas was necessarily my scene but it was amazing! We decided this weekend that we're going back next year! If you haven't been, you simply must go.

My very close second choice would be my vacation to Montego Bay, Jamaica with the Alpha Chi girls for our senior year spring break trip. It was absolutely gorgeous and we had so much fun!

Best idea for a girls weekend trip: I would have to say something like this past weekend. I think a trip to the beach is the perfect setting to just catch up with friends, just relax and have some wine. (Sidenote: I tried the skinny girl wine for the first time this weekend. I'm obsessed with her mixed drinks- have had every flavor and was dying to try the wine. I definitely recommend it!)

Best trip on the cheap: You might think I'm crazy for saying this, but New York. Transportation there is really reasonable (I take the bus all the time) and if you book in advance the rates are really great. Once you're there, it's obviously an expensive city, but there are so many things to do there that don't cost a thing! The main expenses revolve around food and where to stay.

Place you most want to visit: I'm dying to visit Europe! I want to go to Paris, London and all over Italy. It sounds like pure heaven!

Vacation necessities: For me, the most vital thing is a good book. While traveling, there is a lot of down time, so something to entertain you is key. I also could not live without my ipod while taking a trip. And, of course, comfortable shoes!

Fashion Faux Pas Friday

I know I said yesterday was my last post for the weekend, but I saw something so horrific yesterday, while at the pool, that it just could not be ignored. There was a woman wearing a nike one piece bathing suit with her hair...in pigtails! Yes that's right, a grown woman (I'm guessing she was probably 45 to 50 years old) had pigtail braids in her hair.

They looked like this woman

Now in case you haven't already realized (based on my pickiness about mens shoes) but I am a tough critic and things like this just rattle me! Now I have been trying to be more open minded lately but this is just unacceptable! And then to pair it with what I can only assume is a larger version of her daughters bathing suit, is just crazy!

I question a great deal of Kim's fashion choices but this is just going too far

I'm sorry but pigtails have a certain time and place. And it's difficult for me to distinguish when to draw the line and say that a person is too old, since I know a lot of people who wore them well through high school for sporting events. Which, to me, seems understandable, but otherwise, just no. I would go as far as to say if you can put your daughters hair in pigtails, then perhaps you're just a tad bit too old.

No, Bree, just no.

So ends my little rant, but I'm still wondering, what other fashion faux pas put you in a funk?

Have a wonderful weekend!
