Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone! Now you know it's not my favorite holiday but I'm trying to get into the spirit of things. Sandy has moved out of the area, thank goodness, and we have very minimal damage in my house so we're very blessed. It's back to school today for the Halloween parade and pizza party for the little ones!

Hope everyone's day is filled with candy corns and trick or treats!

Oh Sandy!

Well she's here! The winds are beginning to pick up and the rain just won't quit so I'm making the most out of these two days off and getting cozy. I've got my Anthropologie candle burning and the new T-Swift CD playing.

Oh Sandy

My Vineyard Vines Shep Shirt is absolutely perfect for this occasion. Paired with some leggings and I'm good to go.

I'm doing some online shopping (what else is new) and trying to get my planner up to date.

I recently started watching Felicity on Netflix. It was a little before my time but loved Dawson's Creek and had heard they were similar so I decided to give it a shot (not much else to do cooped up inside). I'm really liking it so far but kind, really, hate Felicity. I'm surprised because I love Keri Russell and think she's gorgeous but her character is wacked out of her mind- serious stalker alert! But I'm sticking with it hoping she grows on me.

As long as the power stays on I'm a happy girl, but I've got a few reinforcements incase that doesn't happen. Stay safe everyone!

Is anyone else stuck inside during this storm? What are you doing to pass the time?

Sunday Social: Week 16

This weeks question are all about All Hallows Eve. Let me begin by saying I detest all thing Halloween, I mean I hate it with a serious passion. To me it's like New Years Eve, it's hyped up but never really lives up to your expectations. Plus I never have a good costume because a. I'm too lazy or b. refuse to spend money on something I'm going to wear for one day. I think I wouldn't actually mind the holiday if someone picked out exactly what I was going to be and told me exactly where I was going to go. But enough of my little rant, on to the questions

1. What was your favorite Halloween costume as a kid? Pictures? I couldn't find any pictures of this one but I was a princess when I was in the second grade. My parents spent an obscene amount of money on this gorgeous princess costume only for me to try it on and tell them it was "too itchy". But looking back now that was seriously an amazing costume. I also liked being a "beanie baby" during the hight of their craze in the fifth grade.

2. If you could go back and dress up as anything what would you be? I don't know what I would be but I would definitely redo my three year old costume, it was a hand-me-down dinosaur from my cousin, my male cousin.

3.  Favorite costume as an adult? Pictures? Since I never really love any of my costumes I'd probably have to say last year when I was a ballerina. It was the first time in awhile that I put actual thought into it.

4. Favorite Halloween candy? I like the fruity candy, I could live on Skittles, I love Starburst, and Gummy Bears are my jam. But somehow we never give that candy out?

5. Favorite Halloween memory? I used to love it as a child, one year we had a pizza party at my house before all of my friends and I went trick-or-treating.

6. What's your favorite scary movie? I'm still terrified of The Ring. But, even though it's not a movie, I'm addicted to American Horror Story.

I do have to admit I'm looking forward to this year because I get to see all of my little pumpkins dressed up in their costumes (they've literally been discussing them since the first day of school). We have a big party and a parade so that should be exciting (if we don't all get blown away by hurricane Sandy).

Tory's Story

Last Thursday night, Tory Burch was interviewed on NBC's Rock Center. It's no secret that I adore everything Tory, from her lovely name (obvi), to her flawless taste, I'm kind of in awe of her. I've followed her career from the first, one page, feature in Vogue about 8 years ago through her current legal woes with her ex-husband, Chris Burch. I'm pretty enamored with everything Tory.

It sounds sort of cheesy to say, but her rise in the fashion world is an inspiration. She had some serious credentials, having worked for Vera Wang, Ralph Lauren, and Harper's Bazaar, but lacked any real, hands on, design experience. She majored in Art History at the University of Pennsylvania, but admits to not having business or fashion design backgrounds. But she loved clothing and developed, what she refers to as, lookbooks which contain various styles that she felt were missing in the fashion world. Based on the positive feedback she was receiving from these books, she and her then husband, Chris Burch, decided to open her own company. They raised 10 million dollars from private investors (mostly close friends) and contributed 2 million of their own money to gamble on Tory's fashion sense. And boy did it pay off! Tory went from having eight employees working in her kitchen, to having over 2000 employees and 36 free standing stores (not to mention the department stores that carry her merchandise, as well as other stores that are in production). What a success story!

I've always felt that fashion is one of the most competitive, and difficult, industries in which to become successful.  Just look at The Devil Wears Prada! But this is such a captivating story.

One funny thing I saw in another interview with her, was that she isn't really into logos (which, of course, is basically her whole brand). She never anticipated having her company being associated with a certain logo.

Well Tory has gotten a great deal of business from me in the last few days. I bought Momma her birthday present, and I purchased two pairs of shoes. She really can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned.

Caroline Suede Ballet Flat - These are the most comfortable flats! I find her Reva's a little painful, they took a long time for me to break in but these are amazing!

Are you as inspired by Tory's story as I am? What are your favorite pieces of hers, lately?

Old Hollywood

I love old Hollywood. It's not unusual to find the tv in my room turned onto TCM on AMC. They're something so glamorous about that time period. It's also no secret that my favorite movie of all time is Breakfast at Tiffany's. I recently saw that Richard Burton's (famous two time husband of Elizabeth Taylor) family is releasing a book that is a compilation of journal entries that detail their captivating, and tumultuous, relationship. I've always been so interested in their love story.

Right now, the Original Father of the Bride just came on, which features, of course, the lovely Elizabeth Taylor as Kay. She was such an amazing actress, and a so beautiful, that it makes me want to read this book even more!

This is one of my favorite quotes. A woman who was married more times than I can count certainly has to be some sort of an expert on relationships (or completely clueless- depending on how you look at it).

So tell me, are you as fascinated by old hollywood as I am? Do you plan on reading Furious Love

Can a Leopard Change Its Spots?

One of my absolute favorite trends this fall are leopard flats.

They are so chic and go with just about everything. I had a pair I wore to death a few years ago but since they have certainly seen better days I am on the hunt for the perfect pair. My friend Arin (hi!) suggested I do a post on where to find the ultimate pair so here you have it!
Can a Leopard Change Its Spots?

1. Madewell Leopard Sidewalk Flat
2. Steve Madden Flat
3. J.Crew Nora Calf Hair Flat
4. J.Crew Darby Loafers
5. J.Crew Viv Calf Hair Flat
6. Tuckernuck Leopard Ballett Flat
7. Madewell Teddy Loafer

Since I've been breaking the bank lately I'm leaning toward to most affordable pair of pointed flats, number 1 or 2. Which pair is your favorite?

Trendy Tuesday: Two Toned

Last year I feel in love with a pair of Michael Kors shoes that I literally wore into the ground (pun intended). I loved that they had two colors, so you can bet I really got my wear out of them! But this year I see that trend popping up just about everywhere. (But don't you forget you heard it here first!)

Here are some of my favorite interpretations of this trend.

The following three pairs are from J.Crew.
These are almost identical to the Michael Kors pair, but basically the inverse.
I love the color and texture combination of this pair. What a statement!
These scream holiday season to me. I would love to wear these to a Christmas party!
These Kate Spade wedges would go with everything

I am a big proponent of getting your moneys worth of something, and I think these shoes are just the ticket. You're not limited to one color pallet. I'd much rather spend a good amount of money on one or two pairs of shoes that I know are comfortable (my biggest stipulation) and will go with everything, rather than spending less money on several pairs that are limiting. If you're like me, this trend is for you.

Birchbox- October

This months Birchbox theme was "goop". Still not totally sure exactly what that is but never-the-less this is what I received. I'm not thrilled with my box this month, mostly because I was hoping for a bottle of Essie nail polish that they discussed on their preview video but no such luck. These are their "must try essentials"

1. Embryolisse- Lait-Creme Concentre- 24 Hour Miracle Cream: "A favorite of models and makeup artists, this cult French lotion heals dryness. Bonus: it also works as a primer and makeup remover"

2. Lulu Organics- Lavender+Clary Sage Hair Power: "Laced with organic lavender and sage, this sweet-smelling dry shampoo revives flat or scone day hair" I've never used dry shampoo before- I'm kind of compulsive about washing my hair daily but am interested to see how this goes.

3. Karuna- Hydrating Treatment Masks: "Get on board with the sheet mask trend. This at-home fave contains Japanese natto (read: soybean) to boost skin's moisture levels"

4. Naked Princess- Naked Shine Luscious Lip Gloss: "Show off your (nearly) bear lips with this sheer gloss, which doubles as a subtle plumper"

5. Luna-Lemon Zest: "These zesty snacks are a goop favorite. They're perfect for keeping you full in between means (plus they can double as a healthy dessert!).

What did you get in your Birchbox this month? Have you tried any of these products?

Sunday Social: Week 15

Sunday Social time again, and this week I'm actually on top of the ball and posting it on Sunday, wow! I love this weeks questions about life:

1. What do you value most in life? Without a doubt my family and friends. On those terribly low days (Holly Golightly refers to them as the "mean reds") they are always there and I am so blessed to have each and everyone of them in my life.

2. What do you think is the greatest invention in your lifetime and why? I'd have to say the internet- and obviously through association, computers- they're the base for all that we do, daily. I honestly do not know how I would have gotten through school without google. And what would I do with all my free time if I didn't spend it perusing Facebook, lusting after goodies on pinterest, or online shopping? It has made so many things so much easier. Everything we need is, literally, right at our fingertips.

3. What do you think is the secret to a good life? I think in life it is so easy to focus on what we don't have but I think the key to happiness is to appreciate all of our blessings. I wish I were better at this but I truly believe this is the secret to life. A character on One Tree Hill once made one of the most fabulous points, people so often say that "one day" they want to be happy but "happiness is not a destination. It's a mood, it's not permanent. It comes and goes and if people thought that way then maybe they would find happiness more often". I think we need to look for happiness in unexpected places and value it while it lasts.

4. What would you most like to be remembered for when you die? If I can make a difference in one persons life than I will be happy.

5. What accomplishment in your life are you most proud of? Ohh that's a hard one, I'm pretty proud of teaching. When I see that lightbulb go on I feel pretty good, that I taught them something that they will know for the rest of their lives. I'm also pretty proud that I grew up, it's sounds simple but if someone would have told me, my first semester freshmen year, that I would have become so independent I wouldn't have believed them.

6. If a movie were made about your life, who would you want to play you? Hmmm well my favorite actress is Jennifer Aniston but not sure that would work...don't know?

Here are the other responses!

Happy Birthday Momma!

Happy Friday everyone!! I'm sorry I have been so MIA lately, I have had zero energy to write lately (the kiddos are running me ragged) but I wanted to stop in and let you know that I'm not dead and to not give up on me just yet! I have some fun things coming your way, so just hang in there!

But I wanted to wish a very Happy Birthday to my beautiful momma! You are the best mother a girl could ask for and I thank God every day that I get to have such a wonderful role model in my life! We are going to have the best weekend filled with skinny girl and red velvet cake, I hope you enjoy every minute of it. I love you!

Sunday (Monday) Social- Week 14

So obviously I'm a day late, but I have to answer this weeks questions because they're on one of my favorite things in the world, reading.

1. Favorite childhood book? I was obsessed with the Madeline series, Eloise, and the Dr. Seuss "Sleep Book"  when I was really young. As I got a little older I was a big Ramona and Amber Brown fan. And as a teenager, you already know about my obsession with Gossip Girl!

2. Favorite book lately? Where We Belong by Emily Giffin

3. Book you wish you could live in? Bond Girl by Erin Duffy, the way she portrays the world of finance is fascinating to me!

4. If you could be any character from a book, who would you be and why? I'd probably be Serena from the Gossip Girl books. She is completely different from how she is on the show (in the books I hated Blair and loved Serena and feel the opposite about the show). I'd love to know what it would be like to be so carefree and to have opportunities just fall into your lap like that.

5. Favorite book turned movie? Eat, Pray, Love. This is one of my favorite books of all time. I saw the movie first and it really resonated with me. After that I had to read the book. I can't even count how many times I've reread it since, I even have certain passages highlighted (yes I'm a freak). There are so may important messages in it and I think the movie does an amazing job of capturing the essence of the beauty that is within the writing.

Also Something Borrowed, because I love that book.

6. Favorite magazines? Vogue, Town & Country, People, In Style, and Cosmo

In a Tizzy

A few weeks ago I fell in love with two "Tizzy" necklaces. I purchased the orange which I am thrilled about, and the tortoiseshell, which I plan to wear with everything.

I love chunky necklaces and these are phenomenal! You can buy them here

Now I'm kind of coveting this one. I'm a serious sucker for any turquoise jewelry.

Currently Coveting: Fall Favs

With the amount of shopping I've been doing lately, I really don't have a lot of room to be coveting anything but, of course, I can't help myself.

Since last fall I've been dying for this Patagonia vest. I've contemplated buying it several times but for some reason just can't seem to bring myself to purchase a vest for $150. But I really want it.

One of my all time favorite websites has to be Tuckernuck. The clothes are so classic and fashion forward. These are the items I'd love to have from the website.

I'm obsessed with the peplum look, just this past weekend I ordered two. This one is wonderful, and so versatile.

This blazer is flawless, but the price tag is less than desirable.

This skirt is so adorable.
Such a random thing to be lusting after, but I'm dying for this pajama set. I think they look so cozy for the winter.
Loafers are so in at the moment, I have two pair but would love to have a bold color (I'm debating between hot pink or the orange).

What items are you coveting as we enter fall?

These Boots Were Made For Walking

I have been on a hunt for black, suede, boots for over two years. I have a few pairs of brown boots that I literally live in during the fall and winter, but desperately need a black pair.

No one wears black boots as well as The Duchess.
Photos from "jobs for my profile"

Boots are one of the few articles of clothing I'm incredibly picky about. The heel has to be a certain height so that it's appropriate during the day (no one wants to look like a street walker) but also tall enough to be able to wear them out at night.

That is why I adore my Frye Jane boots, they're comfortable enough for the day but tall enough for a night out on the town. I've contemplated buying them in black but have a slight concern that black leather boots may look too motorcycle-ish on me (I think they look fantastic on other people).

Here are a few pairs I scouted and am craving.

This pair from J. Crew is my favorite.

Zara never misses when it comes to their boot selection. (Plus you can't beat the price!)

And of course, Nordstrom has a wonderful selection.

This pair in black, is also from Nordstrom.

Trendy Tuesday: Neutrals

White, and it's variations, is thought of as a summer color. But lately I have seen it everywhere for fall. I have my own philosophy for when white jeans are appropriate (I think it should be much more based on the weather, as opposed to the time of year) but I would have to say I would be very hesitant to pull them out now. But I don't think that means all white needs to be forbidden for nine months out of the year. Cream is a wonderful, cozy color that looks amazing during fall.

The most important thing to remember is that fabric is key, try bulky knits or warm scarves. It looks so crisp paired with simple denim.

Here are a few inspiration looks

Don't be afraid to step out of the box and try something new!

Lazy Sunday

It's a lazy Sunday for me today. I'm lucky enough to have a three day weekend this week and I spent the morning with a little breakfast in bed.

I had zero motivation to get out of bed this morning since I had this candle burning.
Yesterday I did a little damage at the mall (and online), seriously though, I'm starting to think I may need to enter some sort of twelve step program. I was trying some clothes on at Anthropologie and feel madly in love with the candle they had burning in their dressing room. Pumpkin soufflĂ© is absolutely perfect for fall.

Now I'm just eagerly await the arrival of several packages and watching two of my teams hopefully clench wins today! Go Ravens and Orioles!

Hope you have a nice, relaxing, Sunday!

Indian Summer

I hate to complain (oh who am I kidding, I love to complain) but am I the only seriously sick of this bipolar weather? Now I love summer and am still trying to make the most out of these 80 degree days, but I'm growing antsy to wear all of my fall clothes. Plus, I'm kind of running out of cool clothes that don't scream summer. I wouldn't even mind it as much if the temperature stayed in the same range, but here it's 50 or 60 degrees when I leave for work in the morning, but in the upper 70's by late afternoon (and I'm dying of heat exhaustion on the playground). I adore my state because I get to experience all four season, I must say ten times a day "there's a reason I don't live in Florida". Call me crazy but when I think Halloween I don't think balmy temperatures.

It's so hot here I can't even really wear jeans, so I'm forced to still rock the shorts which I'm so tired of! I also can't get too dressed up because little paint covered hands inevitably find their way to my clothes at some point during the day.

Here's my uniform for the past few days.

Indian Summer

J.Crew Slim Fit Tee / J.Crew Chino / Jack Rogers Shoes / Tahitian Pearl Earrings

So I appeal to you my dear readers, what are you transition outfits because I'm running out of ideas?
