New Years Attire

I pretty much hate New Years as much as I hate Halloween, so much hype and pressure to do something really fun. Don't get me wrong, I've had my share of amazing New Years, but all of the concern around it is exhausting. But once all of the plans are figured out I do usually end up having a good time.
New Years Attire
I usually stress out looking for the perfect (sequined) dress and never have luck. I ultimately end up settling for something and spending way too much money on something I'm not in love with. This year, I'm just going with an old dress and dolling it up with some of my new jewels from Santa.

What are your New Years plans? What are you going to wear?

Hope everyone has a safe and happy New Years!!!

Resolutions

I decided to forgo this weeks Sunday Social and share a few of my New Years Resolutions.

Last June I created a short to-do list I was hoping to accomplish by my 24th Birthday. I checked off pretty much everything I had on the list i.e. attend a yoga class by myself, try a spin class (others are more of a work in progress). Since it worked so well, I thought I would add a few more things to my list for this new year.

1. Take Cooking Lessons
2. Run a 5K
3. Read/Reread 5 of the Classics (i.e The Great Gatsby, The Catcher in the Rye, Pride and Prejudice, To Kill a Mockingbird, and one other)
4. Move to New York
5. Expand Jewelry Collection
6. Invest in atleast 3 Coffee Table Books

What are your New Years Resolutions?

Pamper Yourself

We get so caught up in shopping for others, we tend to put ourselves on the back burner. Now that Christmas is over, you have a little time to regroup (hopefully) so I think it's time to put yourself first and  Here are a few items you should put on that wishlist

Mason Pearson Hairbrush

I have had these hairbrushes since I was a little girl and I have to say they are amazing. They make your hair so soft!

Sleep Mask

Similar one here.
My room gets an obscene amount of light in the morning and when I have the luxury of sleeping in, it is unbelievably inconvenient. I bought this one at Bendel's in August and haven't looked back since.

Get a Mani/Pedi

Nothing makes me feel more polished then getting my nails done. I got this color last week for Christmas and have never gotten so many compliments before. You must try!

Treat Your Hair Well

I recently purchased these Kerastase hair products and am in love! I have been a big proponent of Moroccan Oil since this summer, but this stuff might be even better.

What do you do to pamper yourself?

Sunday Social: Week 22

Sorry for the delay, (as usual) I'm late. But I had this weeks Sunday Social all ready to go but forgot to post it.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Mint chocolate chip (specifically Baskin Robins- their Rainbow Sherbet is a very close second).

What is your favorite smell? Suntan lotion, that's why I'm obsessed with Bobbi Brown Beach- it smells just like it. Pine is a close second.
What is your favorite TV commercial (past or present)? The only one that stands out to me is an old gap commercial with the "Love Train" song. I was also pretty obsessed with this commercial last super bowl
What is your favorite day of the week? Saturday
What is your favorite way to waste time? Being on the computer, pinterest/tumblr suck up a lot of time. Or I'll watch a movie or show on Netflix.
What is your favorite article of clothing?
Hmm, I don't think I really have a favorite, kind of equally obsessed with everything.

In other news Merry Christmas Eve!!! This is seriously one of my favorite days of the year! Plus it's snowing- pretty amazing. Don't remember the last time that happened! Hope everyone has a joyous and happy evening!

Gift Guide: Jewelry

"Come and trim my Christmas tree with some decorations bought at Tiffany's"
Wouldn't we all love this? I know that Christmas shopping is coming down to the wire but you still have a little time to get just the right gift for the important people in your life. I think jewelry is the perfect personal, yet safe, gift. Here are a few choices:

Gift Guide: Gold Jewelry

For the classics, I'd stick with black and gold.

Gift Guide: Colorful Jewelry
But if the recipient is a little more bold with her style, maybe add a punch of color.
1. J.Crew Geometric Bouquet Necklace
2. Baublebar Peri Hex Strand Necklace
3. J.Crew Tile Necklace
4. J.Crew Fu Dog Bracelet
5. Baublebar Pink Cabochon Studs

What jewelry have you been eyeing up to gift this year?

Trendy Tuesday: Bangs are Back

A decision I have been struggling with for over a year is whether or not to get bangs. I know it sounds trivial but I, like most people, am very particular about my hair. My friends can certainly attest to the fact that I spend an obscene amount of time doing it (it's pretty much the main reason I'm always late). So I hesitate to make a relatively permanent decision concerning it. I go through phases where I want to cut it short, but immediately after I do I want to grow it back again. This is why I'm concerned about bangs, I worry I will feel the same way once I do it. I have resigned myself to cutting them several times, but every time I get to the hairdresser I back out. But I'm pretty sure I'm going for it this friday because, well they're everywhere

Lea Michele is one of my favorite style icons. I always get super excited to see what she is going to wear come award show season. She is the main reason why I wanted to cut bangs in the first place.

Her character, Rachel Barry, was seriously annoying in season 1 of Glee but I found myself actually rooting for her in season 2 (and she has since become one of my favorite characters). I have to admit, some of it is attributed to her new hairdo (and her new wardrobe- which has only improved since).

What I admire most about her bangs is her different ways to style them. She can wear
heavy blunt bangs,

sweep them to the side,

or pin them back all together. They're so versatile!

I used to say Kate Middleton could do no wrong. While I'm still standing by my opinion, I have to admit I wasn't too in love with her new bangs. The way I saw it, her hair was her thing so why mess with it?

I read that even Kate wasn't too thrilled with them. But in true Duchess fashion, she has since altered the way she styles them, and now I think I'm kind of a fan.

It's no secret that I'm a fan of The View. I watch every days episode when I come home from work. One of my main attractions is seeing what Elisabeth Hasselbeck's wearing. And while I rarely (if ever) agree with her, the girl's got style.

Last week she boldly went were every hairdresser fears, she cut her own bangs! Now these are the ones I'm dying to copy. I think they're nice and subtle and would be easy to maintain.

So what are your thoughts on bangs? Should I do it or will I regret it?

XOXO, Gossip Girl

Tonight it the end of an era, Gossip Girl is ending. I can still remember watching the first episode in my dorm freshman year. I knew I was going to be obsessed before the show even started because of how much I loved the books, so it's truly sad to see it go.

And regarding the endings, Chuck and Blair better end up together (even though I'm sure my beloved Serena and Nate won't). I'm also predicting Gossip Girl will be an unknown person with some connection to them all, at least that's what I'm hoping. You've got one hour to voice your predictions or let me know your thoughts after it's over!

XOXO, Gossip Girl

Sunday Social: Week 21

What is the wallpaper on your cell phone? Similar to my obsession with iPhone covers, I change my wallpaper constantly! I had to get into the holiday spirit!

What do you keep beside your bed? I'm kind of crazy about having everything I need in my bedside table. One of my biggest pet peeves is being comfortable and ready for bed only to realize I need something across the room. Here are my main necessities:

Bedside Table
1. I also keep the book I am currently reading there so I can get in a few pages right before I fall asleep
2. Notepads: I often remember things I need to do the following day or have an idea that I need to jot down.
3. Hand (and foot) lotion: I always keep hand lotion next to my bed to moisturize right before I go to sleep. My friends Claire and Sarah (hi!!) gave me this amazing set of L'Occitane lotion for my birthday and I'm obsessed! It's amazing!
4. Nail files: I also seem to need one
5. Lip balm
6. My Sleep Mask: I bought this one at Bendel's over the summer. It's doubly fabulous because it has a cold component to put inside for added luxury. My room gets a lot of sunlight in the morning so this is key for me to get the maximum amount of sleep I can.

What is your least favorite chore? Probably taking the dog for a walk. Don't get me wrong, I adore my pup but for some reason I detest having to take him out. It's just such a long process, plus he can be kind of a maniac.

If you could eliminate one thing from your daily routine, what would it be? Probably my whole morning routine, if I could sleep in a little more that would be fabulous!

What do you do to vent anger? I'm a big talker, I always need to talk the problem through with someone (or several people) to get their opinions. Running also helps me get out my frustration. And when all else fails, I pop in one of my favorite movies.

What is your favorite holiday of the year, and why? Thanksgiving is definitely my favorite (aside from my birthday). Christmas is a very close second!

Every Girl Needs...

I've decided to start another series (Trendy Tuesday will be making a comeback next week) about staples for every girl to have in her wardrobe.

I saw this phenomenal quote on prepaganda; "The true mark of a good wardrobe is one item a thousand times, rather than a thousand items once". This is my philosophy when buying clothing, I think it is important to make investments in pieces that are stylish, yet timeless. I would ultimately rather spend a little more money up front to purchase something I will be able to have for years and that I will be able to get a great deal of wear out of, as opposed to extremely trendy pieces I will only wear once or twice.

So the first item on my list of wardrobe must haves are a pair of fun, feminine shoes.

These are the type of shoes Carrie Bradshaw would drool over. Since I try to be practical with my money, I usually attempt to spent it on items I can wear with anything, but sometimes a girl just has to splurge!

Fashion is ultimately about fun and while it is important to buy items that are practical (and comfortable) it's also important to purchase things that make you excited just to put them on. That is how I feel about one of my birthday presents:
Kate Spade flat
While in New York a few weeks ago I fell in love at first sight. These Kate Spade shoes are just the most fun things I've seen. And while I was torn with purchasing them in black, imagining I would get more use out of them, I figured it was time to have a little fun with my wardrobe!

I'd love to know, what pair of shoes do you own that make you just happy to put them on?

Yet Another Belated Sunday Social: Week 20

I've had the flu for the past few days so I wasn't able to post my answers to this weeks Sunday Social but I wanted to share them because I really like this weeks questions

But first and foremost, Happy Belated Birthday (it was yesterday) to my Dad!! Love you so much!

Now on to the questions...
1. Favorite Holiday Movies/ TV Specials? I love Love Actually, The Holiday, It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, Elf, and Fred Clause (The Muppet Christmas Carol was my favorite when I was little- also Nightmare Before Christmas).

I'm also a serious sucker for all of the Hallmark Holiday Special- except The Christmas Shoes detest that movie...don't even get me started (same goes for that song)

2. Do you do any volunteering during the holidays if so what? If not what would you do? My extended family has adopted a family in lieu of presents in the past. We also try and to donate to toys for tots ect.

3. Favorite toy you received as a child? Gosh, that's so difficult since I was seriously blessed as a child. It would probably be between my Playmobile doll house, my American Girl Dolls, and the My Size Barbie my grandmother got me

4. What was your must have item for the holidays in High School? I don't even remember the things I used to ask for in high school, I'm pretty sure it was mostly clothes but I do remember dying for a curling iron so I could copy Brittany Snow's hair in American Dreams and being super excited when I got it freshmen year

5. Item you begged for most but never got? I was pretty lucky so I don't really remember too many things but I always wanted a Barbie jeep and never got that (but I don't think I ever really expressed my desire for it to my parents).

6. What do you do on Christmas Eve? Aside from Thanksgiving, this is my favorite day of the year. My parents and I go to mass at 6:00 pm, after mass we drive around looking at all of the decorations, and then we either go out for a really nice dinner or we come home and cook a super delicious dinner. We have tons of appetizers and cocktails just the three of us (four including Skyler). Just enjoy the tree and Christmas carols and relax until dinner is ready. Then we have a nice leisurely dinner together. Afterward, I'm allowed to open one gift. Then we just hang out or watch a Christmas movie together. It sounds simple but it's seriously the best. It's the day I most anticipate.

Gift Guide: Book Worm

If you have any geeks, like me, in your life, you know that books are the best way to make a splash over the holidays. Here is a little gift guide I've compiled for those seriously difficult people to shop for:

Gift Guide: Book Worm

1. A Kindle Fire- You already know this is at the top of my wishlist this year but it really is a fantastic gift for those who love to read. Plus, they can use it for so many other things!

2. Goodreads App- If you do decide to purchase this for the book worm in your life, pre-download the Goodreads app. This app allows you to catalog the books you are reading, have read, and wish to read. It also has thousands of book recommendations. I love that you can set a reading goal for yourself over the year and it will track it for you

3. Give a stack of the latest best sellers- Everyone has a list of books that receive great reviews and that they have on that "someday" list, buying these for them is such a nice little treat (and the perfect way to spend some down time between the holidays)

4. Give a stack of your favorite books- I am constantly looking for good book suggestions and love hearing what my friends enjoyed (since we pretty much all have the same taste). This would be a great, personal, gift that the receiver would really enjoy!
