One Month Down...

So we are one month into 2013 and I have to say it's turning out to be a pretty good year! I wrote a post on a few of my resolutions for the year and I thought it would be fun to check in once a month and see where I am with my progress.

1. Invest in at least 3 coffee table books- I purchased my first one the other day

(Kate Spade, surprise surprise)

2. Run a 5k- No I haven't done this yet, but I have been making a much stronger effort to hit the gym lately. I'm kind of addicted to spin classes!

3. Move to New York- Obvi I haven't made it to the Big Apple just yet but I'm stowing away some moolah to make that move a reality

4. Expand my jewelry collection- I've already become kind of a sucker for jewelry lately, definitely making this resolution happen
I ordered this bracelet a few days ago

This necklace is at the top of my wishlist

I'm also adding some things to my list

5. Read at least 25 books this year- This averages out to be slightly more than 2 books a month (so far I'm on point)- plus I always do more reading during the summer, but I really want to accomplish this goal

So far I have read Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and I loved it (not too fond of the ending though)- word on the street is that they are making a movie (starring Reese Witherspoon) which should be fantastic!

I'm almost finisheded Gillian Flynn's other book Dark Places- I'm liking it but it isn't the page turner that Gone Girl was. Not amazing but not a disappointment either.

Up next on my reading list- The Great Gatsby (checking off two things at once!)

6. Say yes more often- I am far from an adventurous person and I don't really like this about myself. I fear becoming too set in my ways and too complacent in my comfort zone so it's important to do things you may not instantly want to do.

7. Start a line a day journal- In college I was really good with keeping up a journal. I loved it! But haven't written in it in over a year. It's a difficult thing to keep up with. But even when I was vigilant with my journal, my planner was a sort of pseudo journal. (I document all important events and will go back and write in things that happened on certain days). But I saw a great tip on College Prepster that suggested a line a day journal. I think that seems doable! It will help see the good (and occasionally bad) things that happen throughout the year.

Sweet Tee

I've written of my exhaustive search for the perfect t-shirt before (see posts here and here) but would you believe I'm still on this hunt? Okay so I have a confession, when I wrote the first post about it in October, I only added ONE shirt to my wardrobe! So that t-shirt drawer wasn't getting any fuller.

Well that has changed as of late. I shared with you my recent Frat Collection long sleeve purchase, it finally arrived and I'm in love! So since I'm running so low on tees I thought I would purchase a few.
Luckily The Frat Collection was having a 30% off sale for V-day and I snagged a few other tees. I have to tell you, the amount of options is seriously overwhelming. I could have spent hours trying to design the right ones.

I ended up deciding on these:

This one is a long sleeve white t-shirt (obviously) with the Rhonda pocket.
Now the short sleeve choice was much more difficult for me. I finally settled on the Linley with the light blue t-shirt.

I also traveled over to Etsy and bought the shirt I'm most excited about. I recently saw a shirt on pinterest that had a monogrammed pocket. So originally that was what I was in the market for, but then I stumbled upon this baby

I'm kind of obsessed with it and cannot wait for it to arrive! I chose the color scheme all the way to the right but have a feeling I will eventually get the classic one as well.

Finally I'm mulling over this tee from Southern Tide. After all my recent purchases I'm not sure if this is really necessary...still on the fence.

Trendy Tuesday: SAG Awards

Award season is like crack to me. The SAG awards were Sunday night and what I love about them is that they are solely about acting (which let's face it is pretty much all I care about during any award show). Here are a few of my thoughts on the looks

Best Dressed:
Elizabeth Moss- stunning black dress, love that it's short. Of all of the awards shows this one would be the one to wear this look. Well done

Amanda Seifred- amazing except didn't like the necklace with it. It looked like an afterthought and didn't go. Reminded me of flavor flav.

Keri Washington- Stunning

Claire Danes- In Givenchy. All but the lipstick is amazing.

Lea Michele- My second fav of the night. She hits it out of the park 95% of the time with her award show looks.

Best Dressed- Jane Krakowski- I'm dying over her coral dress!

Worst Dressed:
Gulianna Rancic- the dress is much better than the Golden Globes but her hair looks like she stuck her finger in a light socket. The irony that she judges other peoples fashion choices.

Anne Hathaway, that skirt of the dress was atrocious, it looks like part of it got caught in the door. Also I hate her hair.

Worst of the night: January Jones- I will never understand why good looking people try to make themselves ugly. I guess it's a gift to us all?

What were your thoughts on the awards?

Sunday Social: Week 25

This weeks questions:  We’re getting deep
What is your ideal way to relax: I'm a big believer in the power of a mani/pedi. I will also read a good book or just watch a movie.
Where is your favorite place to be: Either New York or the Beach (or at home!)

Who do you consider your biggest roll model: My mom, she's the greatest person I know. But with famous people I would say Jackie O, she was such an elegant woman who carried herself with dignity and grace at all times.

What does your life look like in 3 years? Living in New York, hopefully with a job I enjoy. All I really care about is being happy and that everyone I care about is happy and healthy, as well.
If you could go back and change one decision what would it be? Aside from poor decisions with boys (of which I have made plenty), I would have spent less time worrying about school in college and enjoy more moments (especially as a freshman, I was totally terrified). I'd like to go relive a few things I missed out on. But to be honest I am a big believer that everything happens for a reason, so everything that I had to face and deal with has made me stronger and has brought me to today so I really wouldn't change too much, because out of it I've grown up.
What is your biggest accomplishment in life thus far? Speaking up and telling my dad that I wanted to completely change my life plan. It sounds stupid but for me to finally tell him I didn't want to do something was so scary but I am so much happier now.
Here is what others had to say

It's Okay Thursday

I've been wanting to do one of these for awhile but can never seem to get my act together in time (or have enough things to say) but I think they're really funny. I always love A Complete Waste of Makeup's posts. So here goes

It's okay...

To have a four day week and still be counting down the days until the weekend

To have hoped for a snow delay this morning- no such luck

To be a little nervous about passing the day with the kiddos today- no outside play can make the day go by so slowly!

To take the day off after the Super Bowl in hopes The Ravens win and I get to celebrate all night!!
The Greatest Fans in the World!

Celebrating the big win!!

To dream of warmer weather- these chilly temps are just no fun

Brrrr!

To have watched The Hangover several times this week- makes me laugh every time

Have a wonderful Thursday!

Every Girl Needs: Flats

Flats are perhaps my favorite type of shoe. They are so versatile and seriously the most comfortable. I pretty much wear them every day to work since they're casual enough but still give the impression of being put together.

To me, with all kinds of shoes, the most important component is that they are comfortable. It is worth the time to go and try on the styles you like in store. My favorite looks are classic ballet flats and pointed flats.

Basics:
The most important staples every girl needs are black, brown, and nude flats.

These Tory Burch Chelsea flats are my latest obsession. I love that they look like true ballet flats and the subtle logo. They would be so versatile!

The Tory Burch Caroline flats are my favorite pair of flats I own. They are amazing! The problem is they are sold out everywhere. They're the most comfortable pair of Tory shoes I own. If you can manage to get your hands on a pair buy them immediately! (And let me know where you got them because I need another pair stat).

Kate Spade Tock flats are very reminiscent of Ferragamo flats (one of my dream pairs of shoes). These are perfection.

Leopard:
I am also a strong believer in leopard flats (see previous post). They go with everything!

J.Crew has a fabulous pair.

Metallics:
Here are a few other styles that have a slight variation on the classics but are still subtle enough to be basic. (In other words I want them right now).

I'm kind of in love with everything cork (The Jack Rogers cork sandals will be one of my first summer purchases) and these Kate Spade Terry flats are no different. I have visited the site several times just to admire them. I know I will most likely break down and buy them for myself soon. Plus the metallic tip makes them just amazing.
I'm also as equally in love with these J.Crew Viv flats. They're simple yet make a statement.

These Kate Spade Gwen flats are absolutely to die for!

What are the flats your simply cannot live without?

Sunday Social: Week 24

I haven't done Sunday Social in a few weeks but I'm back now! This weeks questions all revolve around threes:

Top 3 Favorite Kinds of Food: Mexican, Italian, and sushi

First 3 Things You do in the Morning: My morning routine is down to the minute clocked out (because I don't like to wake up too early I have to squeeze everything in). I wake up at 7:15, immediately grab my computer and check Facebook, emails ect., make my bed, go make breakfast, while eating I read through all of the latest blog entries and post mine for that day, then go brush my teeth/wash my face then get dressed (I usually have my outfit already planned out the night before).

Last 3 Things You do at Night: I make a vow every night to turn of electronics (with the exception of my kindle) at least a half an hour before I go to sleep, it allows me to decompress. Once I do that I brush my teeth and wash my face, tidy up my room (everything needs to be put away), unmake my bed, then read until I'm ready to fall asleep

3 TV Shows you Never Miss: There are definitely more than three but lately it's Nashville, Scandal, and New Girl

3 Places You Want to Visit: London, Paris, and all over Italy

3 People You Can Always Count On: Aside from the obvious, my family, I can always call on my two best friends (The Laurens) and all of my best friends from college, they never fail me!

Town and Country Review

Two nights ago I perused this months Town & Country and found a few tips I wanted to share.

First and foremost I did a little husband shopping, since this months edition is about the most eligible bachelors of 2013.

No surprise my other main man, Prince Harry, was named most eligible. Where do I sign up? You get to have a royal wedding without any of the pressure of being first in line for the throne. Plus you'd get to be besties with Kate!

There were some other intriguing prospects that were profiled as well, Connor Kennedy (T-Swifts latest victim), the unnaturally handsome George Clooney, and several other princes.

But for me the most interesting was Ralph Lauren's oldest son, Andrew. He might be a little old for me but hey age's just a number right?! Can you just imagine your closet and one of a kind wedding dress? He's also pretty easy on the eyes.

In other news they had an article on ClĂ© de Peau BeautĂ© Concealer. I had never heard of it before but apparently it's the product in Hollywood. And hey, if it helps me look like those stars I'm in. It does come with a hefty price tag of $70 but they say one tube can last you a year or even two. Seems like a sound investment to me! I'm thinking about making a stop at Nordstrom's makeup counter soon to see which shade to get.

Faces such as Kate Moss, Ellen Pompeo, Amanda Seyfried, Jessica Alba, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Aniston, and Kate Winslet swear by it.

Trendy Tuesday: Turbans

love 60's fashion. I often think I was born in the wrong decade because of all the styles I missed out on and this is one of them. Luckily it's making a comeback! Call me crazy but I'm kind of into this look. It's so retro, I love it.

Look how flawless Elizabeth Taylor looks in her formal turban. The statement earrings make the whole look pure perfection.

Kourtney Kardashian (my fav of the K's) pulled this look of recently in Miami

I think it would be such a chic beach look (something new and different from the usual baseball or straw hat I use)

Rachel Zoe also, recently, wore one. I love the simplicity of the black.

I have to be completely honest, I'm not sure I would go as far as to attempt to pull one off (I don't think I'm that bold) but I really wish I was because it's a fabulous look!

Here is a great one if you're feeling adventurous.

Thoughts on turbans?

The Morning After: Golden Globes Fashion

As always, when it comes to award season I have a lot of opinions on the looks of the stars. Here are a few of my fav (and least favorite) looks of the night.

Best Dressed

Claire Danes- I think the dress is amazing and the color is perfect on her but am I the only one who thinks she's worn this before?

Isla Fisher- my top five favorite of the night

Megan Fox

Connie Britton- LOVE HER! The hair is flawless, perfect compliment to the dress. The silhouette shows off her figure perfectly

Hayden Panettiere- (Connie's costar look a page out of her book with this look). What a great color, the feather fishtail is such a fun and youthful touch to her dress. Her hair is perfect (I always love when they wear their hair down)

Nicole Richie- Loved this look- the color is gorgeous and so different

Jessica Alba- I think this is maybe my favorite of the night (though it's difficult to choose since so many were amazing). It reminds me of Lea Michele's look at the Globes two years ago

Julie Bowen

Olivia Munn

Anne Hathaway

Kristen Wiig

Lea Michele

All photo credit goes to People

Worst Dressed

Gulianna Rancic- she looks like the bride of Frankinstein- what the hell was she thinking? And she judges other peoples fashion choices on Fashion Police- irony in the flesh.

Lena Dunham- hideous color, not flattering, she needs jewelry, so matronly, and cover up the tattoo

Julianne Hough- I wonder how many tutus had to die to make that dress

Lucy Lu- She's either a huge hit or colossal miss...this year she was the latter

Kaley Cuoco- I don't even know where to begin

Jennifer Lopez- You're a mother! Cover it up!

Not Sure How I Feel

Zooey Deschanel- Oscar de la Renta (even though he is hands down my favorite designer I'm not sure how I feel about this dress. The color is amazing and perfect on her skintone but the draping on the hips of the skirt doesn't look good)

Jennifer Lawrence- I wanted to like this because I love her but the bust on this was horrendous. It gave her cone boobs. But aside from that the belt was such a great touch and the color was great

(Marion Cotillard wore a very similar dress by Dior as well. Odd?)

Trends of the Evening:
-strapless
-sequines/ glitter
-fishtails
-ruby red
-nude
A Few Asides:

-Bradley Cooper was pure perfection- I love him...He was robbed!

-Jon Hamm and his girlfriend are the best looking couple around- Brangelina who?

-E's "Mani Cam" was the funniest thing I've ever seen

What did you think of last night?

P.S. I apologize for the length post!
