Trendy Tuesday: The Oscars

So I couldn't get my act together enough to post this yesterday but you know I have tons of opinions on Sunday night's fashion.

Best Dressed:

Jessica Chastain
I'm not usually a fan of nude dresses (especially on the fair) but this was fabulous

Amy Adams
I think she looks gorgeous! My only issue is, haven't we seen this dress before in pale pink on someone (I'm wracking my brain about who wore it but I know we have- if you know please put me out of my misery)

Gulianna Ranic
finally she got an awards show dress right! It was stunning, especially paired with her hair cut. I doo have to say though, I probably would have chosen a dress that had a more interesting neckline, it didn't do the gown justice in all the close ups

Reese Witherspoon
In Louis Vuitton. Amazing! What a gorgeous color and I adore her hair, plus so adorable she lets her daughter help pick out her dress. My one critique is that the black panels on the side of the dress should have come a little further, it cut her in an awkward place and gave the illusion of her hips being bigger than they are. But come on- she has a rockin bod for just having a baby!

Charlize Theron
This might actually be my favorite dress of the night, I thought the color was stunning on her and the cut was amazing but I just cannot endorse the hair. I know she did it for a role blah blah blah but she looks like Ellen DeGenerous fell into Portia's closet.

Jennifer Lawrence
Upon arrival I wasn't sure how I felt (love her but feel like she is either a huge hit or a miss) but it grew on me and I realize it is a sunning dress (and one that was made for her). I'm obsessed with the skirt.

Naomi Watts
Upon first sight I thought it looked like her dress got caught in a machine and ripped off half of her sleeve but it really grew on me.

But the real stunner was her After Party dress!

Kate Beckinsale
You may not have seen her (she wasn't at the show) but she made the rounds at the After Parties and I just needed to include her because she looked so stunning. I'm a sucker for a high ponytail. Gorgeous

Kerri Washington
Mui Mui- gorgeous. love the beading and the color it was perfection with her coloring. She misses my best dressed by a hair. I cannot get enough of this look!

BEST!

My favorite lady in the world: Jennifer Aniston- I have no words for how perfect this is

Worst Dressed:
Amanda Syfred
I'm sorry, I really wanted to like this but I just can't. The neckline is atrocious. She is way too young (and gorgeous) to be buttoned up like this.

Jennifer Garner
I think she seems like a lovely lady and great mom but she looked like she had a tail. From the front this was a good choice for her, it was nothing special but still fine (kind of like her) but the ruffle explosion in the back was ridiculous.

Salma Hayek
 I can't even...

Kristen Stuart
First of all why is she even there? (I think she was asking herself the same thing with that glazed look on her face the whole night). Next time she should take some uppers instead of whatever the hell she was on Sunday night. Girlfriend could barely stand and I'm not talking about her crutches. Maybe the next time you win the lottery and get invited to the biggest award show of the year you can do us all a favor and brush your hair?

Halle Berry
This looked outdated and the shoulders were pitiful. Where art deco goes to die

WORST:
Anne Hathaway
I mean this cannot come as a surprise. She may have won the Oscar but she lost huge Sunday night. This is the worst looking thing I have seen in a long time. What is up with the darts?! It's borderline obscene! (The Academy should have been more concerned about this than Seth Macfarlane's "controversial jokes"). What an idiot to switch the Valentino for this at the last minute.

All in all I was kind of undewhelmed with the whole night. I was very bored with Seth's jokes, I thought he played it seriously safe (I may be alone on that). I get that they are trying to rope in a younger demographic but this was a fail. Please next year get Amy and Tina!

I also think they need to give more of those awards in those ceremonies before the show. I couldn't care less about 90% of the awards.

Trends:
Neutrals: What a wonderful way to stand out on the dark red carpet, and interestingly on the fair skinned nominees- what a soft, feminine option

Metallics: Surprising for the beginning of spring but still worked on the majority of the women who wore them

Please share, what were your thoughts on The Oscars?

J.Crew Jewels

It's no secret that I love J.Crew Jewelry. They constantly knock it out of the park. Since I'm trying to expand my jewelry collection this year, I find myself even more drawn to it than usual.

Necklaces:
To me, necklaces are the most fun part of jewelry. They can instantly transform an outfit and are so easy to interchange. Lately big statement necklaces have been absolutely everywhere and I cannot get enough of them. Here are a few of J.Crew's necklaces that I'm lusting after.
I NEED this Bright Stone Necklace. The colors just scream spring and summer. It is pure perfection.
This Fan Fringe Necklace is also great. The coral and turquoise ensure that it would go with so much.

This Crystal Circle Necklace is a nice subtle piece that would still make a statement (if that makes any sense). It's simple enough to not be overpowering, but ornate enough to be interesting.

This Crystal Venus Flytrap Necklace is reminiscent of the ones Anna Wintour frequently sports.

You can really never go wrong with something she endorses. This is also a fabulous layering piece if you're looking for more of a wow factor.
And of course their Bubble Necklaces. I have a few and they're great, but this color is amazing. I'm a sucker for anything periwinkle.

Bracelets:
I've always had a thing for necklaces, but my love for bracelets is newly found. In college, and even before, I never could really wear them because they got in the way while writing. I was also constantly having to take of jewelry for lab so they just seemed impractical. But now I am obsessed with them. Since some outfits are bold enough on their own, I opt to wear a simple necklaces (or no necklace at all) but still feel unfinished so I simply add a bracelet (or a few).

How can you ever go wrong with a gold, Classic Link Bracelet? This one is pure perfection.

These Pave Link Bracelets are everywhere. There can be dresses up and down and are classic pieces that will never go out of style.
I'm in love with this Enameled Double-Frog Bangle. It is beyond adorable. I must make this mine after lent.

What J.Crew Jewelry are you loving lately?

Trendy Tuesday: Kitten Heels

First off I hope everyone had a wonderful, long weekend. I know I sure did! This past weekend we had a Bridal Shower and Bachelorette Party for my friend Nicole, who is getting married at the end of March! It was great to get to be with all the girls again and I'm so looking forward to seeing everyone again in a month. Here are a few snapshots from the night

But back to our normally scheduled programming- Trendy Tuesday. I used to have very strong feelings regarding kitten heels. I used detest them. (Even Lauren Conrad called them the "mullet of shoes") but lately they have been everywhere and I'm beginning to slightly rethink my conviction.

I think kitten heels only have one appropriate place, work. I'm fortunate at my job that I don't have to wear heels everyday (how weird would that be). But in most work places, heels are expected. As much as I love wearing them, I don't think I could stand most of mine for 8 or 9 hours a day. That's where the kitten heel comes in. They're appropriate (you certainly won't look like a stripper in them) and they will be comfortable enough to wear all day. Here are a few of the ones I've seen lately that even I would consider adding to my closet

And I think these shoes would be practical and beautiful for a wedding!

I'm dying to know, what are your thoughts on kitten heels?

Lent

Every year I wrack my brain for what to give up for Lent. In recent years I've tried to adopt better habits rather than give something trivial up. I've attempted to be less judgmental and to be more forgiving. I actually really enjoyed those promises, I could actually feel a change in my psyche, but this year I decided to go back to the normal abstaining from something you love. I thought long and hard about what my biggest guilty pleasure is but had trouble pinpointing the one thing (I was thinking along the food lines) that I just cannot live without. I have several vices but I don't really indulge in them very often so it wouldn't be a tough sacrifice, and this year I really wanted to push myself.

So I came up with the only thing that would be really difficult for me to give up, shopping. It was pretty much the first thing that crossed my mind but I quickly vetoed it because I honestly didn't think I could do it. But when a friend of my suggested it, I knew I had to give it a shot. This seriously will be the longest 40 days of my life. But I think it will be great for me- help to put things in to perspective. It will help me appreciate the smaller things. (Plus at the rate I am buying things now, a little detox is essential).

I'm actually looking forward to this challenge. But that doesn't mean I will by any means stop looking, so get ready for countless Currently Covetings coming your way. And if I make it I intend on rewarding myself with a nice big gift after Easter.

I'm also giving up junk food/ snacking so this will hopefully be a very healthy mind and body experience. I'd love to know, what are you giving up for Lent?

Here Comes the Sun

Lately I've been really obsessed with sunglasses. I'm just going to chalk it up to the impending (hopefully) arrival of warmer weather. I'm forcing myself to wait until it gets a little warmer to buy a pair since I don't think it's a necessity right now. But that hasn't stopped me from looking (and lusting...)

These are most likely to be the pair I end up purchasing. From the first time I tried them on, I haven't stopped thinking about them.
These are my favorite pair but they appear to be sold out everywhere

These are amazing! I'm dying for these

Clubmasters are classic and always a good choice.

What sunglasses are you coveting?

Trendy Tuesday: Silk Scarves

This is hardly a new trend. Silk scarves have been around forever, but this year they're really making a comeback. I love love love the look. (Nevermind I'm kind of obsessed with scarves in general). But there's something so classic about it. It also adds a unique touch to any outfit.

I've had my eye on this Hermes scarf for awhile now. They are exquisite and will never go out of style.

I'm obsessed with the idea of wearing the scarf as a top.

Emilio Pucci is also synonymous with silk scarves with vibrant prints.

You really never can go wrong.

Lately a lot of more mainstream designers have been showing silk scarves.

Kate Spade's Bow scarf is adorable.

This Lilly Pulitzer scarf is phenomenal.

I'll take one in every color, please!

DVF-Diane Von Fate

I am obsessed with Diane Von Furstenberg. I mean like seriously obsessed. I fell in love with a dress of hers from awhile back and have never been able to locate it. Well on a whim last week I decided to search again and FOUND IT! Not only did I find it, I found it for a quarter of the cost, brand new, in my size on ebay. I mean talk about meant to be!

Diane Von Furstenberg Elalia Dress Grecian Waves Tide

My hope is to wear it to my friends wedding this spring (I have yet to try it on and see it in person, so this may change) but even if it doesn't work out for that I have no doubt I'll put this little number to good use!

Have you ever had the good fortune to find something you thought had long since disappeared?

Next Big Purchase

"You know that thing when you see someone cute and he smiles and your heart kind of goes like warm butter sliding down hot toast? Well that's what it's like when I see a store. Only it's better" - Rebecca Bloomwood (I feel ya Becky!)

It's no secret this girl have a weakness for the finer things in life. But there really is nothing like the feeling of purchasing an item that you have admired and lusted after for awhile. (I legitimately sound like a shopaholic)

Now I'm not a total wacko, I do try to keep my impulsive purchases to a minimum. But sometimes (all the time) those beautiful things with the hefty price tags lull me in to submission. So I have decided to allow myself to purchase another big ticket item. Over the summer I saved up to purchase my Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM tote (see posts here and here) and I begrudgingly have to admit that it does feel pretty darn great to buy something with the money you earned, as opposed to receiving it as a gift.

I work better when I have an incentive. Much like the fabulous Carrie Bradshaw (who I know I have already quoted saying this) "I want a ridiculously expensive pair of shoes, I find a way to buy them". So I think I need something new to look forward to...but I need some help. What is it I should be working for? (Because, let's be honest, I have a ultimate wish list a mile long, but which one is the item I have to have next?)

Here are the items I'm thinking about...(it goes from the most reasonable to the outrageous)

-Rebecca Minkoff Cupid Satchel
This is pretty much my latest obsession. The second I saw this bag I fell in love. I have one Rebecca Minkoff bag already and love it so I think adding another bag of hers to my collection would be a sound choice.

-Tory Burch Robinson Satchel
I've loved these bags from the second they came out. The shape is phenominal and it was one of the main reasons I went with the Neverfull over the Speedy (because I assumed I would ultimately purchase this).

-Hermes Bangle
I'm dying for one of these! But wonder if this wouldn't be a better gift to ask for for Christmas next year?

Another Louis Vuitton
As you know, I was so torn between the Speedy and Neverfull and I know one day I will have to add this to my wardrobe so I'm wondering if this should be my next purchase. But since I already have one, should I go with something else?

One of my dream bags!

-Goyard Bag
This is literally my favorite bag. I would die to own this. But also wonder if it's too much like my Louis Vuitton- too repetitive?

Now obviously some of these will be much easier to save up for but I'd still love to know your opinion.  Thoughts, thoughts thoughts??
