Back to the Future

I always say that I was born in the wrong decade. There has never been, and I struggle to believe there ever will be, a better time in fashion that the 1960's. I think that is why we still see so many styles that are inspired by this time period. Right now, retro is ridiculously in. Look at Lilly Pulitzer's spring line, so many of their prints are reminiscent of their original patterns. I can't even begin to name the number of fashion icons that came out of this time period; Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, just to name a few. With Mad Men being at its peak in popularity, so many different designers are going for the retro vibe. Here are some of the most famous looks from that era and how they are being translated into modern looks.

One accessory that is undeniably of this time period, the oversized sunglasses (the more square, or circular, the better). Jackie O might be one of the most influential women in fashion, ever and this was most certainly her signature look

Remember this amazing look on Anne Bancroft in The Graduate?
Animal print was huge back then

So many elements of this photo scream 60's style- the cat eye and false eyelashes, the bouffant, and the animal print jacket.

Pastels were very big for the vacationing starlet during this era.
Elizabeth Taylor is flawless in this lavender look

Fur was so popular in the 60's, similarly so were pastels.
This look is a head-to-toe hit.

The 60's was the start of the mod style.
Audrey Hepburn's wedding style was the epitome of understated elegance.

This little number is the perfect interpretation of mod, today.

Do you share my love for 60's style?

  1. Absolutely! I was in the lilly store yesterday and just obsessing over the patterns!! I love these timeless looks :)

  2. Loving this little flashback! I'm definitely a fan of classic style, never goes out of style! ;)

  3. I think I'm going to splurge on a new pair of sunglasses for this summer and BIG is definitely a requirement!!

    Love that pink dress!
