August Birchbox

I know I skipped my July Birchbox, I may post my loot later this month, but I figured August was more interesting at this point. Here are this months goodies:

Harvey Price: Eau Flirt:
What: Loaded with fresh citrus and jasmine notes, this fanciful scent is irresistible
How: Spritz onto pulse points and, if you're feeling saucy, backs of knees

Juicy Beauty: Oil-Free Moisturizer
What: Oil-free lotion hydrates oily and blemish-prne skin with natural antioxidants and hyaluronic acid
How: Morning and night, apply a think layer to clean face, neck, and décolleté

ModelCo: Party Proof Lipstick
What: A semi-matte lipstick that delivers both hydration and lasting pigment
How: One coat will do, but feel free to layer it on for extra richness

Whish: Exfoliating Body Wash
What: A coconut-rich scrub that brightens and exfoliated with sugar cane and bamboo powder
How: Massage generously into skin while showering. A great way to prep skin for self-tanner

Whish: Hair Inhibiting Deodorant Swipes
What: From the shaving pros at Whish, these wipes tackle odor and slow hair growth in one swipe
How: Sweep across your underarms in the morning or whenever you need a refresher

Since I enjoy getting Birchbox so much I've contemplated getting a subscription to popsugars boxes. It's a little more expensive but you get actual objects, as opposed to samples, so I'm thinking it might be worth it in the end. Does anyone get popsugar boxes? What are your thoughts/have you heard about them?

Hefty Handbags

As an avid lover of designer purses this article is extremely interesting. I've put my plans for my next big purchase on hold while I sort out my new living expenses in NYC but may not want to way too long since the prices are only going to go up.

Think we can also blame Sex and the City for the price increase? (Please note every designer mentioned was a long time fave of one of the girls and mentioned several times throughout the series)

Either way, no one can deter my love of designer handbags!

Movie Buff

I love movies. I love to see the latest releases and consider myself quite the expert on celebrity gossip, but I have a serious soft spot for old movies. Maybe it's because they remind me of days spent with my grandmother, but there is just something so soothing and sophisticated about them (I know I'm instantly put into a good mood the minute I put in Breakfast at Tiffany's).

I was flipping through my new Lilly Pulitzer coffee table book and it mentioned the American Film Institutes Top 100 Films list so I had to check it out and see how many movies I could check off.
I was pretty impressed to say I've seen 25 in their entirety, while I've probably seen parts of about five others.

I took a film class in college which may have been one of my all time favorite classes, it was fascinating, and it forced me to branch out of my romantic comedy rut. I got to see several classics I may not have initially chosen to see (i.e. Citizen Kane- remarkable for how revolutionary it was at the time but incredibly depressing). But looking at the list I realized just how many classics I've yet to actually see. Would you believe I've never seen all of Casablanca or Gone With the Wind (I'm embarrassed to say!).

New resolution is to knock a few more titles off the list by the end of the year. How many of these have you seen? Do you have a thing for old movies, like me?

Miracle Pants

I love white jeans, I mean really love them...on other people. I think they are so incredibly chic and are one of the most timeless summer pieces. But I hate how I look in them. I own several pairs and try them on but am never happy with how I look. I don't know what it is, I guess there isn't the secruity that comes with darker denim to hide the flaws. I feel like everything is magnified in white jeans. But I never give up. I try them on whenever I see them and have searched high and low for the perfect pair, and I finally found them!

Thursday night I took a trip to the mall and made my obligatory stop at Lilly. I had heard how great their "jeans" were so on a whim I tried on the Worth Skinny Minis

OH MY GOD- AMAZING! I've never worn a more comfortable pair of pants (including J.Crew pixie pants- which I've pretty much been obsessed with since my freshman year in college), these are heaven. They feel more like a legging than a jean but aren't too tight light a jegging. All in all they're simply fabulous. I need to buy the navy pair pronto.

Do you have issues with white jeans? What ones to you swear by? Have you tried Lilly's Worth Skinny Minis?

The World Is Flat

During the summer all I wear are flip flops (much to disdain of my dad, who hates feet) but, in my opinion, it's too hot to wear anything else. But as the department stores are ramming down my throat, the summer is fading quickly and before we know it it will be too chilly for open toed shoes. I'm an avid boot girl in the fall and winter. I mean I wear those puppies out (particularly in the winter when it's too cold for any other option). But the fall is the perfect time for one of my favorite kinds of shoes, flats.

Confession time: I have awful feet. Anyone who knows me is probably laughing right now because they know exactly what I'm talking about. I have really long toes and my feet are ridiculously sensitive (I carry bandaids in my purse because of the rate at which I get blisters). So I'm really picky about the perfect flats. I like them to be malleable, so they move with my foot, as opposed to resist against them. I also prefer when the fabric or leather isn't too thick. So I've scouted high and low and have located three pairs of shoes I must have this fall:

I'm not a huge fan of the Reva's because they really hurt my feet but these are absolute heaven. I wore them constantly last fall/winter. This year she's come out with tons of different colors and I'm already dying.

I've learned that pretty much any flat with elastic around the top of the shoe will most likely be very comfortable. I've been dying for these shoes for a year and must have them for the fall. I think the leopard would go with everything!

But the shoe I haven't stopped thinking about are Tieks. I want pretty much every color. They also have the added bonus of being able to fold up and stash away in your purse (which will definitely come in handy for this girl)

What are your favorite fall flats?

Write It Out

I'm an avid list maker. I tend to lie awake at night with all the things I have to do circling in my head. During the day little things pop into my head and just as quickly as they enter, the leave again. So I write. I write literally everything down. That's where my notebooks come in handy. I have countless lists going on the "Notes" app on my phone, but there's something about putting pen to paper that actually helps me to remember and there's something so gratifying about getting to "cross" something off the list (though I never actually cross something out, my OCD would never allow that- I put a little check next to a completed item, or highlight it). So, in my life, notebooks are imperative. Here are a few of the ones I cannot live without.

The most important notebook a girl can have is obviously her planner. I like to actually see the week, and month, laid out in front of me so I can conceptualize when things are actually going to happen. I'm addicted to the Lilly planners. I can't even remember back to when I didn't use them. This year, though, I branched out and bought the large agenda instead (I know, I'm a wild woman).

I like to keep a notepad next to my bed to write those pesky little reminders down.

I keep a notebook in my purse to jot pretty much anything down. I like to keep a running list of blog post ideas, shopping lists, to-do's. It's helpful to keep this one with you at all times because you have it at your disposal.

I've kind of had an obsession with May Books for awhile but have yet to pull the trigger on one because I get a little too overwhelmed with picking one out. But I recently saw that they have one that is for a budget and I think I definitely need that to catalog all my expenses in the city.

Are you as obsessed with notebooks as I am? What's your strategy for staying organized?

D. Porthault

Okay I have be obsessed with this photo on Pinterest and have been on an exhaustive search for this bedding. I mean I'm head over heels in love. Well I finally located the fabulous designer, D. Porthault.

Porthault is a long time favorite of two of the most fab women of the past century, Jackie O and Coco Chanel (talk about some glowing endorsements!). Problem is they're insanely expensive! (And I thought I got into trouble at Serena and Lily).

I mean how gorgeous are these?!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a powerball win so I could justifying buying these beauties.

Seven Months Down

It's no secret I've been a little MIA for the past few weeks. I was taking a class and had a ginormous project at the end that sucked up a great deal of my free time. But thankfully today is the last "official" class and I have the next two weeks off so hopefully I will be able to catch up on all the posts I started and never finished, or brainstormed and never got a chance to begin.

After my trip to the beach for the Fourth of July, I made a little stop at the outlets and did some damage at the Kate Spade one. They were having a promotion that day, the entire store was 50% off! Naturally I picked up a few goodies, and a few of them were jewelry.

I realized recently that I have a great deal of pink and neutral necklaces, but lacked a few blue ones. I was on the hunt and found this baby marked down substantially (mine is cobalt blue),

I just couldn't pass it up!

I got this striped bangle for next to nothing.

At the very beginning of the month I read All the Summer Girls by Meg Donohue.
It was amazing! The story is about three best friends and how their complicated lives come together for a weekend trip to the Jersey Shore and are forced to face their unresolved issues with an event from their past. Each girls individual story is so captivating alone, then trying to piece together the parts of a mystery makes this book one I couldn't put down. This is the perfect beach read!

Coffee Table Books:
I've been tempted to buy so many coffee table books lately and recently pulled the trigger on two.

I bought Emily Schuman's Cupcakes and Cashmere.
It's seriously adorable- if you don't already own it, I highly suggest it

While shopping on Amazon I saw Lauren Conrad's Style on discount and I just couldn't pass it up.

Move to New York:
If you didn't hear, I am officially moving to Manhattan at the end of August!

Here's hoping August is just as eventful!
