Currently Coveting: Fall Favorites

Fall is one of the best times to shop, in my opinion. Which means that I have many things on my wish list. Here are a few of the items I'm dying for

Tory Burch is the ultimate when it comes to ballet flats. I have so many pairs and they're pretty much the only thing I wear when it's too warm for boots. I'm dying for all three of these.

Leopard flats are a wardrobe staple. (I have two pairs already!) But these are pure perfection.

I have a pair of her Caroline Flats from last year and they are my favorite (they're much more comfortable than her Reva's) so a pair in black is a must have.

I also have heard her Eddie Ballet Flats are super comfortable. I also love how understated they are.

I'm a little bit of a jacket whore. I believe that a girl can never have too many. I have about five or six everyday jackets/coats for the fall and winter but for some reason don't have a dress coat that I really love.

This Zara coat is perfect. It's sophisticated and elegant but still edgy and hip. Wouldn't hate finding this baby under my Christmas tree!

These heels are at the very top of the list and may be purchased as early as this weekend. I'm dying over them!

I'm already thinking about Thanksgiving outfits and I'm mildly obsessed with this Elizabeth McKay shirt. (Yes those are deer heads).

I'm looking for the perfect pair of booties (more on that to come) and I think this Matt Bernson pair might be just what I'm looking for.

My longtime search for the perfect black suede boots may finally have come to an end. Feast your eyes on these babies!

I've been neglecting my love for lululemon, kind of like how I'm neglecting my love of working out (but I wouldn't every say I really loved that so much). And even though it's starting to get dark earlier (ew) I'm determined to get back into my routine. And what better way to motivate myself than by buying new workout gear?

This baby will be mine.

I think I would wear this even with jeans! Unfortunately the stripe is sold out online but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed they have it in the store.

This is absolutely amazing and I must own it immediately.
A girl can never have too many crops. I usually wear the Inspire Crops but I think it's time to mix it up a little.

So basically a lot of shoes...What are you lusting after this fall??

Give Up Outfit

Do you ever have days when you just don't feel like picking out an outfit? On Sunday, I like to check that weeks weather forecast and brainstorm a few ideas of what I plan on wearing that week, but don't usually plan too far in advance because the weather always seems to change. So by Wednesday and Thursday I feel like I have exhausted all of my good ideas and am left with just so-so options.

This is pretty much always what I resort to when I give-up.

Give Up Outfit

1. A Simple Tee- Usually striped
2. A Comfortable Pair of Jeans
3. Basic Flats

But there are lots of ways to spruce these outfits up

1. Try a bold mix of patterns (like leopard or snakeskin flats with your stripe shirt)

2. Add a third piece of clothing (such as a vest or scarf)
I was told once that J.Crew employes have to have a minimum of three articles of clothing on at all times (which is why they always look like they are actually wearing an outfit instead of a plain, boring, dress)

3. Go for a more interesting alternative- While the long-sleeved t-shirts are easy (I'm not kidding I have at least 10) they aren't the most interesting (I always feel unpolished when I put one on) so look for more interesting alternatives that are still functional and comfortable

I love Splendid, their clothes are so comfortable, yet have certain details that make their pieces more unique. This shirt has a drape quality that make it more visually pleasing (plus it will hide a multitude of sins)

This peplum is incredibly darling. It's casual enough that you won't look like you're trying too hard, but still has a little something extra that gives an outfit a finished look.

Dolman sleeves are one of my favorite details on simple tee's. They make them so comfortable and are surprisingly flattering on almost every body type. This top is on my wishlist for sure.

The high neck on this sweater helps to streamline the boxy dolman look, to make it even more flattering. The top is perfection.

How do you spruce up you're "give-up outfit"?

The Handbag List

Handbags are investments. I don't just mean that they cost a lot of money (even though the best ones absolutely do), but if you buy the right ones you will be able to have it for a lifetime. Even shoes, regardless of how timeless the style, have an expiration date if they are worn too much, but handbags can last and last. I'm starting to believe that purses are the single most important part of an outfit. I don't know about you, but they are one of the first things I notice. So let's just say somehow tomorrow I woke up with some serious cash, we're talking about the kind that would make Oprah jealous, these are the bags I would buy to make up the ultimate collection.

The Perfect, Casual, Clutch:

Valentino's signature studded detail is edgy, yet understated. This purse would go with just about anything and compliment the outfit, instead of overpowering it.

For the Black Tie Events

Similar to having a good dress coat, a classic, formal, clutch is essential. This Salvatore Ferragamo Vera Patent Leather Piuma Clutch is perfect.

Downtown Chic

Balenciaga Motorcycle Bags are hip and edgy. They come in funky and neutral colors and are great for a dressed down look.

The Carryall
Goyard Totes come in a rainbow of colors and are lightweight and the perfect, casual bag. Unfortunately, the authentic bags are not sold online.

Trendy Heaven

Chloe Marcie Handbag are trendy without being too wild that they would go out of style in the near future.

The Classics

Saint Laurent's Ligne Y Handbag is so classic. The silhouette will never go out of style and it will go with everything.

The Prada Saffiano Medium Double Zip Top Handle Bag is so versitile. It would be the perfect bag for work, but still hip enough to take out to lunch with your girls.

The Ultimate

However, the Godfather of all purses is Chanel Classic Flap Bag. This is the most expensive of the bunch, but in my opinion well worth it. I mean my grandmother carried this bag, so you know it's timeless. They are gorgeous and always appropriate.

What purses would you include in your ultimate collection?

A Cut Above

So this past weekend I took a pretty big plunge for me, I cut my hair! In all honesty it was kind of a happy accident. I love having long(ish) hair. I've gotten so used to it over the past few years and I just prefer the way it looks on me. But the constant torture I put it through really damages it. Let me just say that I am religious about washing my hair-EVERY SINGLE DAY- I never skip a day, which means that I am forced to blow dry it-EVERY SINGLE DAY- to get it looking somewhat presentable. So yeah, basically my hair hates me. I've been trying to treat it well with deep conditioning hair products but nothing has really done a great deal of repair. Which really left me with one choice- chop off the dead ends. Because I loved my length I'm always against cutting it, which means that my dead ends were really long. So when I asked my hairdresser to make the cut a little more came off than I was prepared to say goodbye to.

But I kind of think it was a sign. Lately I've been dreaming of several LOB (Long Bob) hair cuts that all the celebs are sporting, but I was just too chicken to take the plunge. Well I jumped in head first!
I'm obsessed with Giuliana's cut, it's so sleek and elegant. (Plus it looks fab on her).

I adore everything Kelly Ripa does. From her fashion sense to her adorable locks, she can do no wrong. My cut isn't quite this short but how fab is this look??

But the style I have wanted more than anything is Olivia Palermo's LOB. I mean has there ever been more gorgeous hair?? (Now if I only ever get bold enough to try a middle part).

Although I'm already missing my longer locks, my looks and feels 1000% healthier. I was exactly what it needed. Now I resolve to keep up with regular hair cuts so it can grow again, but still maintain healthy ends.

Wednesday Whereabouts

When I announced that I was moving to NYC I had several requests to do a few posts on updates of what I've been doing in the city. Selfishly, one of the reasons I love keeping a blog is to almost have a public journal that I get to share and hear feedback on.  So I thought it would be fun to do a series of posts about where and what I'm doing around town (so down the road I can look back and always have the special memories documented).

I apologize for those of you who follow me on Instagram, this may be a little redundant!

I'm lucky enough to live close to Riverside Park and get to see these gorgeous views while I run!

 Late night Pinkberry deliveries.

Living so close to Lincoln Center was so amaze during fashion week. I got to stop by and check out all the action!

My first friday in the city I got off work early and got to get a little "me time" in and enjoy a much needed mani/pedi.

And I get to explore the city more and more every day!

Trendy Tuesday: Styling a Chambray Shirt

You read about my quest for the perfect chambray/denim shirt and now it's time to discuss how to style it.

Colored Denim:

For me I have always treated denim as a neutral so my initial thought was to pair it with all of those color jeans we now own. It's a great way to mix up an outfit (as opposed to having the predictable denim bottom and colored top). Plus I think this tones down the colored denim to make them more subtle.

White Jeans:

Since I'm a rebel I refuse to abide by the "no white jeans past labor day" rule. To me, the weather dictates whether or not white denim is appropriate. If it's still Indian Summer, I saw go for it. White jeans have such a limited time frame and with excruciatingly hot temperatures they aren't always an option, so you need to figure out a way to incorporate them into the fall.

Leggings:

This is kind of obvious and not the more fashionable but it is comfortable and is a simple way jazz up a usually dull outfit and make it appear more put together. I prefer to pair mine with J.Crew pixie pants to make it a little more dressy, but they're still as comfortable as leggings.

Dark Denim:
When I first heard about this pairing I was hesitant (actually I was flat out against it). But it's really grown on me. The key here is to have extremely different shades, the top needs to be drastically lighter than the pants (otherwise you look like you're in a Jlo jumpsuit).

How do you style your chambray shirt?

A Little Luxury

I've noticed recently that I have gotten so caught up with the everyday hustle and bustle that I rarely take time to do anything purely self indulgent. I think it's so important to hit the pause button every once and awhile and do something simply luxurious, that is just for you. Here are a few tips of things I do to make myself feel pampered.

Get Your Hair Did
Few things make me feel as good as when I'm having a good hair day. I just downloaded the Drybar app and am trying to decide when the perfect time is to schedule my first appointment. So many cities now have blow dry bars with extremely reasonable prices.

Mani/Pedi

Essie: Hot Coco- The perfect shade for the fall
This is obvious, but it's also easy to become delinquent on. As much as I love doing this, this is the first luxury I cross off if I just can't fit it into my schedule. But I'm going to try and resign myself to be better about it because it really does make a world of difference.

Light an Amazing Candle
Henri Bendel: Lavender Leaves Candle- This candle smells incredible and has the added bonus of incorporating one of the most soothing smells
There is just something incredibly soothing about having candles burning, not to mention to pleasing aroma. I tend to spend way too much on candles, but I have to admit it's kind of worth it.

Buy Some Blooms
One thing I have resolved to do is to have fresh flowers in my apartment as often as I can. They really bring a little life into a room. There is just something so refreshing about them!

Indulge in Some Fancy Beauty Products
I have a mix of high end and drug store cosmetics, but there is just something so wonderful about using nicer products. In some cases, I fail to see the difference, in which case, I'm happy to save a little money, but I have to concede that some of the more expensive products are well worth the price. Go have a day where you experiment with what products you like the best.

What are a few things you do to pamper yourself?

Zany for Zara

Want to know one of the best things about living in NYC? Having Zara readily available. I mean how great is that store?? I think it's the perfect blend of trendy and classic.

I dangerously have one literally steps away from my subway stop so I have made several trips (maybe two or three or four...) in the last week. This could be a very good thing or a very bad thing it's that convenient.

Here are a few of the pieces I have on my wish list at the moment:

I have to have this coat. It's beyond adorable on and is a great weight. (It runs on the small side so I would size up if you're thinking about it- plus it's always a good idea to have a little extra room in jackets for bulky sweaters).

I saw these flats on another blog and have yet to get them out of my head. Just my lucky they had every size but mine in the store so I'm going to have to resort to ordering them online, but are they not gorgeous? (They also come in black).

I started lusting after this coat before I saw the one above- I love the buckle detail around the neck.

I'm a sucker for anything with a bow on it. How great are these shoes

I bought this top in black and navy on Friday. (Confession: I have about seven different versions of this shirt is various colors by different brands so I knew I had to get this).
